I have had my eye on a walnut stump for about 6 months.Tree had uprooted and my neighbor cut most of the tree up for firewood which he had a right to do being it was on his property.I asked him if I could have what was left thinking it would make some pretty lumber. He said he would have gave me the whole tree if he knew I wanted it.Went down today and shoveled dirt off roots and dug into a yellow jackets nest .Went back home and got gas to pour on nest.Found tree was hollow at base so I cut off bark all around tree above hollow spot and cut off with chainsaw.Still thought I would get about 6' of good log.Went back home and got tractor and log arch.Pulled log down into creek and found hollow spot went  a lot farther than it looked.Couldn't leave log laying in creek so loaded on arch and brought it home .Being I spent a half day in 90 degree heat I guess I'll wash it up and put in on the mill.Sometimes you win, sometimes you loose.good times Charlie has got the blues.I had to add that😀

Some will laugh and say it's garbage. And I say show me stuff like this 💪. There will be some good stuff in there! Look forward to some pictures. This was from a Black Walnut dead for 10+ years laying across the creek that fell over.

If you can get it on your mill you might cut donuts from it. Donuts are cookies with holes in the middle. I had one like that from the derecho 9 -10 years ago and could just get it on my mill. I cut it into 2" rounds and anchor-sealed then stacked and stickered it and evidently the hole absorbed the tension when drying and most did not crack. I think I sold them for $25 each at local flea markets. Good luck.

Glad you saw more potential in it.

Walnut, those are great just as they are, for maybe a charcuterie board.

I agree.   One guy looks at a log and don't see much, another looks at the same log and sees all kinds of possibilities.    You know what they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Listen, or your tongue will make you deaf.

I don't see any wasted time cutting wood like that. Well done. Somebody is going to be real happy with those pieces.
