I took this same picture several weeks ago.  It's three 2x10 glued together poorly with a bark edge left on one of the boards.  No doubt they are selling some of them.

Dude, clean your glasses. If you don't wear glasses, perhaps you should? Or perhaps, you just looked at it from the other side of the room?
I like the ad, it says "MAKE A STATEMENT" I have so many ideas on what the 'statement' might be. Something like 'this should look cool, but I don't know what I am doing'? Or perhaps "I don't know anything about wood, so I bought this"?

I see a new business opportunity for some nextgen colloge kid "GlueUPS Ain't Us!"

No doubt they are selling some. My local home center is supposed to have them in stock, but I never have seen one.

Those are down about 20 bucks a piece from when I first received the picture. Had a customer send the picture to me a while back and they were close to 100 bucks each.
Two LT70s, Nyle L200 kiln, 4 head Pinheiro planer, 30" double surface Cantek planer, Lucas dedicated slabber, Slabmizer, and enough rolling stock and chainsaws to keep it all running.

More box store junky wood?  :D
Like said, most every piece has a bad joint, that's making a statement for sure.

I gave an 82 yr old guy who builds birdhouses better wood than that last week for free and helped him load it.

How times have changed regarding low grade lumber.
Im sure everyone here would be ashamed to try to market such a product as that pictured.
In 1970 I was building my first set of kitchen cabinets out of cherry.
I wanted some White pine for shelves etc.
Grossmans lumber, now rebranded as an el cheapo outlet had White pine shelf boards, 1x12 for a cheap price.
I sorted thru the pile a little ways and found a good number of absolutely clear boards.
I bought all I needed and several extra.
As an aside, back then my shop machinery consisted of a combination delta 8" table saw and 4" jointer which my dad gave me.
For surfacing, i went to a local millwork shop.
The KD cherry 4/4 cost about $.50 per bd ft.

Well, written on the display is "Make a Statement" and that they do.  It might not necessarily be a good statement, but a statement nonetheless.

When I started and for the first 20 years everything had to be edged. Defected hardwood boards did not sell.  Now I can saw walnut through and through and no edging required. The dumber the better.

Cedarman

Who would have thought you could sell mega amounts of water in a grocery store.
Pecky cypress anyone?
People buy all kinds of weird stuff.  Go to Wal-Mart.  No quality required.
I am in the pink when sawing cedar.

Don P

5 possible 2x4's for $79... they still need to drop a bit to snag me  :D

moodnacreek

Pecky cypress ? clear pine? rift and quartered? FAS?  Nobody today grew up with these terms.

Wormy maple is now called Ambrosia maple.  Wormy maple was always 2 Com or pallet on the commercial market.  Then there was a spurt of denim pine...pine with blue stain.  In the '50s, the craze was knotty pine.  They used them in cabinets, but before that time, it wasn't used for show.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

dustyhat

Dont forget Rainbow poplar, we used to call it almost rotten :D Im still looking for that nitch market for blue stained red oak, that would make purple oak right. a real exotic.
