I'm rebuilding a saw that Stihl wouldn't warranty. I'm just looking for any tips tricks others might know. The most obvious question to me is the fact that it is a computerized saw and I am not sure whether there is a break-in 'program' that should be initiated with the computer, and if so how to let the saw know it needs to break itself in :)

I am no expert, too 'old school' for computerized saws, but I think you you should be able to let it idle for a short period and reset itself.

Check the user manual if you still have it. Otherwise, do a web search. The procedure varies depending on what version of Mtronic you have. Alternatively, just run it, and see how it does. That's my choice. If everything seems good, it's good. If there's a problem, then lookup recalibration. You aren't gonna hurt the saw either way.

Stihl has online videos for the seting up, what i found is you get it started open it up really fast hold it until you hear the speed dropping back, give it a fast rap and that is it this works for my CM261.

Thank you all for the replys. A little of the back story. I believe I confused the saw, chasing lateral scribe lines, running 2/3 3/4 throttle. I've read this can confuse the computer. Anyway Stihl refused warranty, claimed bad fuel caused the problem. How-ever my dealer tried to make it right, and returned the saw to me with new OEM piston/cylinder. Unfortunately,  just after I started this post and dove into the saw I find that I received the old style non-slant cylinder. My dealer is 360 miles away, so it may be a while before I get to this :(

Is there any chance I can fit this old style cylinder to my saw?

There is a video on Youtube of a guy modifying a 261 c-m to the original non slant fin. I think it's on the channel Dave's Small Engines. It seems to run well with the non slant fin.

OK thanks I will look into that, as well as seeing if the dealer will swap me for the slant one :)
