OK Furby, help this computer challenged user shorten things up.

How do I take a link like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/30-8-10-CUT-BLACK-WALNUT-TREES-FOR-MILLING-INTO-LUMB_W0QQitemZ7709801222QQcategoryZ42354QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
and just post "e-bay walnut" to serve as the link?
Did that make sense?
Thanks

Look for the hyperlink tab.
Third one in on the second line in the posting page.
Click it and: [ url]      comes up.
After the l in the first URL add an = sign and then your link.
Move over and between the ] [  type what you want to show up.

It should look like this, but with out the spaces I'm adding after the l in the last :

e-bay walnut[/url    ]

I had one of my links shortened a long time ago by one of the Admins.
It bugged me that I didn't know how to do that, so I dug around and learned how!
Always glad to show someone how to do tricks like that, just gotta ask! ;)
If I don't know how........ya give me something to figure out! ;D

There is a test thread around here someplace, play around with some of the options on the posting page.

What a coincidence. About six hours ago Tom sent me the instructions to do this very thing.

I had tried to do it using plain html coding but it didn't work, so I asked for help and Tom came through for me--in the ethanol thread.

Thanks, Tom. And good on you too, Furby.

There is no need to say 'unleaded regular gas'. It's all unleaded. Just say 'regular gas'. It's not the 70s anymore. (At least that's what my wife tells me.)

For all of you that have never noticed the help link in the menu bar,  It explains on how to do all of that kind of thing. here is a link to the section that includes the answers to this question and more.

LINK
I can change my profile okay. No errors. If you can,t remove all the extra info in other fields and try.

Furby

Shhhhhhh...............
Don't let my secrets out! ;)

Jeff

Here is something new for you furby, you know how you left a space in the tag in the post above to show how the code is used?  That is what the code tag is used for 8)

Example:

Link to my previous post

Furby

Yup, that's a new one.......gonna have to remember that one.
Thanks!

I guess I should point out that most of what I know about the forum has been gleaned from the Admins. Some I just figured out or read the help page on, but the bulk comes from them. ;)

OK, you all can ignore this but I had to at least try this to make sure I understood all this CODE you computer guys use.
