Lynn, I am very thankful not only that I still have my Grandpa, but that I also got to spend a lot of time with him over the years. We lived right next door when I was little, and I also worked for him for a few years when I got out of high school. I got to spend more time with him than any of the other grandkids.

47, you aren't wrong about Uncle Runt- there was always a little (or a lot) of mischief in those eyes😂

I've always gravitated to folks older than me, and I think it is because I was seeking what I never had. A grandfather. I've always looked forward to being one since I never had one, and sadly, It never will be. Its really something that I think about a lot. I see the joy that grandchildren bring to others and It makes me feel, I dunno, maybe the word would be incomplete.  Sorry about the debbie downer post.  Love the stories and pics barbender. Much appreciated. :)
I can change my profile okay. No errors. If you can,t remove all the extra info in other fields and try.

Jeff, for some reason I find that on here, and in life in general, I have a lit of friends that are a lot older than me. Sometimes I feel like I was born into the wrong generation😊

Sorry about the grandkids not happening. I don't have any, I'm hoping with our 5 kids someone will come through. We raised our kids in a very traditional/conservative setting, yet they don't really want to have kids. It makes me sad and I hope they change their minds. 4 girls and 1 boy, the boy is the baby. He just turned 13. I already told him, your sisters are coming up with some dang fool ideas but just know you are getting married and having kids! No ifs, ands, or buts! Sigh. Boys are easier, I just put him in a headlock and we roll around on the floor if we have a disagreement😂

It doesn't bode well for our country, when we stop having kids. I don't think any of the current generation stops to think about who is going to take care of them, when they get older. I read the other day that the US population actually shrunk.

One other thing Jeff- I know in our area there is a mentoring program, where youth who may not have a grandparent, or whatever figure in their life are matched with a willing adult that can spend time with them. Opportunities to teach a kid to fish, shoot, hunt, heck maybe dig a pond. Idk if there is an actual program in your area but I do know there are kids that would benefit from some attention and direction from a responsible adult male everywhere.

Burt nailed it, at least with my experience. I lost one grandfather when I was 6, so really no memories. The other lived too far away to see much, so never really got to know him. But my adopted gramps (no relation, just da old guy down da road), he took me fishing, hunting and spent lots of quality time with me. To this day, my brother Ed and I always hit gramps favorite fishin' hole for the opener, in honor of him.

That's a cool story, Chet. I'm thinking you boys adopted him as much as he did you👍😊

Dillard had moved his new wife here from Kentucky so he could work the early logging camps. He musta found some time to get home, as they had 19 kids.  :)  One of my prized possessions is the only new chainsaw he ever owned, a 6-20 Pioneer.
