Just read Toyota  is replacing  all the newer Tundra V6 engines in a recall along with  some cars it was used in. Supposed to be the biggest  recall in history due to the quantity and numbers .

Mine is on the recall. At 1st they were  talking paying 29 hours to the mechanic to rebuild the engines. The value of the trucks would plummet from a rebuild and the Toyota leasing would lose far more value. I am glad they are going to replace with a crate engine. I buy the Toyota for its simplicity and longevity. I wasn't fussy about a new model and engine when I leased this new truck, and that's why the lease, if I don't like the it I can give it back,  but my last tundra had over 300,000 miles and I had pretty much wore it out and the gas mileage was killing me. The gas milage in the new truck is almost paying for the itself .

29 hours for a rebuild, I'm sure the mechanics were thrilled🤦 I'm glad they're doing crate engines, too.

My Mom had a Toyota car that was involved in a recall, those were determined to have defective piston rings and required a tear down and replacement of said rings.

A rebuild is only as good and thorough as the tech doing the work.  Lots of comebacks and problems to fix.  Much more cost effective to replace the engines when you look at it that way.  Also, the parts network would have probably been drained to support all the work.

Techs are not all that thrilled either way I think.  When I worked at a stealership years ago, warranty work paid 1/2 rate.  The dealers cut their losses that way.  I didn't work there long.

I received my recall notice in the mail yesterday.
They are working on the 'fix' but basically they are replacing the engine assembly.
That will be an expensive recall for Toyota, 100,000+ units to recall. My daughter works at a large GM dealership and is replacing an engine in a Sierra, $9K Canadian.
