I have a customer looking to dry a 14x8 X 22' cypress beam. Does anyone have a vacuum kiln thst can handle that? I have a nyle but I'd never put a big green beam in there!

I think the vacuum container size would limit that length, how about a makeshift solar built around the beam temporarily.  low cost, and slower with nighttime relaxation/conditioning.  some general fans, no need to baffle and get between wood with only a beam.

My thinking is that this customer is more in need of an education rather than a kiln.

Is the beam already sawn, and who did the sawing ? Just curious,

I believe there is an outfit in Ashland Va with a vacuum kiln but I don't know the name.

I also seem to remember Charlie Shepperson in King William Va with a vacuum kiln.  804-432-9246

I don't know about the capacity of either.

You'll need a deep vacuum kiln (such as vacutherm or Den Socling's product) and not an iDry.

and a mix of log handling heavy equipment.

If you call the manufacturer, maybe they will have a list of folks with a large enough chamber.  starting to sound expensive though.

Pre-recession, there was a deep vacuum kiln located somewhere in central VA that did a lot of timberframe timbers, so it was pretty long.  I haven't heard of them in years though and don't recall if they closed up or not.

If you call some of the larger timberframe companies they might have some sources to share.

Dreaming Creek Timber Frames in Powhatan Virginia might have a big enough one.  They list kiln drying as one of their services.

One of the advantages of cypress is that it doesn't shrink much and you don't need to set the pitch. What is their reason for wanting it kiln dried?
