Enough blades for a while

I should have enough blades to last me a while. I am sure I use too many blades on my typical sawing job. I think I figured I used a blade for about every 400 bf of mostly tulip poplar on my last sawing job. My sharpener guru is supposed to bring me 18-19 any day and pick up another 20 or so to be sharpened but I was not comfortable to start a new job until  I had more than the 10 or so I have in stock so I ordered another box of 15 - 4 degree DH blades from WM a week ago. They did not show up in a couple days and I could not find any tracking info so I called WM and found they sent them by mail. Never had blades shipped by mail - always UPS or FedEx. I checked with local PO and they said no shipping label so still at shipper. I called WM and they speculated PO did not scan them but would check so Monday WM called back bright and early and said they had shipped another box by UPS and tracking shows will arrive tomorrow.

Today I got a note in the mail about a package from WM at the PO as too big for my route carrier lady to handle I guess. I went down about 3:30 pm and picked up the lost shipment. I called WM and asked what to do with them and they said buy them or send back and offered a decent discount so I just bought them.

I guess I will be in good shape the rest of the summer and maybe longer. The delay did cause me to miss/re-schedule a couple of jobs because of my customer's schedules and the weather. I should get back on schedule next week if the weather permits.

I get 300-400 bf without a debarker. On the rare times that my debarker is working well, I've got as much as 1200 or so.

I 100% use my Debarker and generally change the blade about 10:00 if I am in heavy productive sawing.  If it is light sawing it gets changed at noon whether it needs it or not.

If you see signs of a dulling blade, then you have waited too long.

I had similar experience.  Resharpenings started taking longer and longer.  To get out of a bind I had to order a box of new blades.  My blade inventory went up to about 75-90 blades.

When I switched to the LT50 I've tried to keep blade inventory down to 30-45 blades.  Now if the guy who sharpens for me is slow, I have a firm discussion with him, "Ted, you're falling behind!  Take up the slack and sharpen some blades, man!"  Usually he gets around to it.

Is your sharpening guy a little bit wide between the eyes, not overly bright and in general not that easy to get along with? If so he sounds kinda like the guy that does my blades😁

My sharpener is great to work with and delivered as promised. He brought me 19 blades back today and took about 22-23 or so back with him. He had told me it would be about 2 weeks because of other things he had going on. He picks them up and returns them to my house so no shipping issues to contend with. Also he re-profiled some 10 and 7 degree blades to 4's for me when I told him I was standardizing on 4 degree.

I just got back in from selling some poplar 1X12s to a local contractor and while I was at the barn the UPS guy brought the other new order from WM so I have about 60 sharp or new blades to work with and a couple dozen in for sharpening.

I got an email from Marty Parsons this morning.  Ten resharps are on their way back to me.

My turnaround time is normally about 2 weeks from date he picks them up till he returns them here from/to my house. In many cases that is often one week if I push him for them. I try to keep enough in my pool not to have to do that.
