Today was the second day in a row for us for a fire. Yesterdays high was 42 with rain today 48 and cloudy. The same NW wind both days. Split some wood today - no black flies.

I might run out of wood!!!
Looks like low 40's in the morning and not even 60 for a high.

Got mine fired up again, didn't even get to 50 here. Rain since 11 and all day tomorrow.  Not good weather for newborn fawns.

I managed to get the Cub Cadet up into the woods this morning.

I was going after a large red maple branch that blew down some time back.

The wood was sound so I cut it into 16" rounds.

All loaded up and ready to head for home.

It was a very pleasant morning in the woods. The ground has dried out and there were no bugs.

  Keep on cutting.....Cutter

It's really amazing how many limbs and trees fall around here for no apparent reason. I was sitting on the back porch the other day and heard a crash on the other side of the creek so walked over to look and a fairly large limb had fell out of a big white oak. Had leaves on it so it wasn't dead. Wasn't a bit windy either. If my land had easier access I believe I could cut enough dead trees and blow downs to meet most of my firewood needs. When the ash trees were dying it wasn't safe to walk through the woods. Problem is most of them just rotted being I'd need a helicopter to get them off the hill.

June is a nice time of the year up here, not real hot and all that fresh new greenery. Been a cool work week here, 60's and low 70's, some showers. Be a good week to cut wood.

I've had this load of wood on the trailer since mid April so it is past time to work it up so that I can use the trailer for something else. This afternoon was cloudy and did not seem that hot.

Over the winter I made the left hand stakes so they would fold down and built the cutting table. This is the first time I used them together.

When the sun came out it seemed a good time to quit.

Just for fun I used my 47 years old HomeLite Super XL that I bought new in 1978.

Neat setup. So what is your process? Do you buck one log then split it, then buck another? Looks like your woodpile is several steps away from the splitter, so how do you handle that?

This is for smaller wood. The narrow gaps in the table are 18" cntr-cntr. Once I got a feel I made one cut in each narrow gap the full with, 32". Cut what ever was on there.

Then ran the splitter to clear the table. This is junky wood that I want to be the outside/last row in the wood shed for early fall use so I am starting a separate row here to keep it separate from the good winter wood. I toss the splits along the row where I will stack it to air dry. It's hard to see but there is a small stack started on the left.

Ah, I get it. Cool. So none of the rounds drop through the rack and you have no 'picking up' (bending over) to do. I kind of like that. I gotta ponder on that a bit. Wish I has more room to make a setup like that. Bending over is getting to be a real issue, picking up ain't so great either. I still touch wood too many times and keep reducing that, but it's never enough as age progresses.

G man I love the manual log deck.  do you have smaller logs pulling towards you as you cut.  I have rollers at 45 degrees, and the saw tries to pull it to me if it catches.

I have a 2X2 rail along the sawing side of the table. So far that has been enough to hold the logs from getting pulled off or rolling off. It will probably get cut thru in the cutting channels eventually but will still have two screws in each segment.

Nice setup gman. I believe that set up would work better than the rack I built for slabs. I may have to redesign mine.
