From this picture, I searched and it appears that this is an adult male Lone Star tick.  The female has the star and the male has the "lace" around it's outside border:

Females are easily recognized by a single white dot in the center of a brown body, with the males having spots or streaks of white pigment around the outer edge of the body.

I have never given such a thought and certainly never thought about boy & girl ticks.

My son's buddy got bit by a lonestar and has developed the red meat allergy.

TreefarmerNN

That's a nasty one.  I know a couple of people who have gotten that allergy and it's debilitating and really bad news if you forget and eat something you shouldn't.

No steaks, burgers etc.

They say God doesn't make mistakes but he comes close with ticks.

When I was researching my tick to find it's "species" I remember seeing that red meat allergy associated with the Lone Star.  It's a wonder that I survived because growing up I was bitten my hundreds of ticks.

Back when you were younger, probably the only tick carried disease was Rocky Mtn Spotted fever...makes you think...some say the red meat allergy was bioengineered.

I always thought I wasn't the "conspiracy theory" type, but the more I learn...

There was some very shady stuff done near Lyme, Conneticut.

I know I've mentioned it several times on here, but I've had Lyme disease since 1988. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. If I one day found out it was some !@@#$#$##$#$$%$%%$##%%%^^&***^*^&%&Y that did it on purpose, I would lose all self control. Don't even want to think about what I would do.

Got bit several years ago in Delaware. Red ring and all that, week on antibiotics and no ill effects since.

When we were first married and took the boy's camping we did a weekend in Lyme, Conn. never even heard of ticks. Rita got bit and had the bullseye on her belly, we wondered what the mark was and forgot about it when it faded. Few yrs later she got sick but the nurse said the tests they did said she was ok, so they gave her some antibiotics. She's begged for the lyme test a bunch of times but they say it's to late to do anything.

I use to walk around the woods logging for yrs and never got a tick on me, when I found out I had multiple myeloma I thought that was the reason I never got bit, but the drug I'm on now I've had them on me 4 times and bitten once, so that changes my idea of not worrying about being sick to keep them away.
