Ley 7575 - reforestation law. The trees planted are not a problem. The trees that grow wild are.

(Ley = Law in Spanish)

Costa Rica has grandfather clauses in their constitution as well. So, no problem there. It is just the natural ones that get interesting...

Plantation permits are really easy.
So, how did I end up here anyway?

Corley5,

Yep, there is mechanical tractors, and then there is my horse Toro.  :) Just depends what the terrain is like.

So, how did I end up here anyway?

Deadheader,
While you are researching, look into labor laws here.
There be some really, really strong ones protecting workers...
Look out, Fred.  Be nice.

crtreedude

He works for himself - labor laws don't apply to him. Both he and I are evil business owner types...

You know the drill Janet.  ;D

What I tell people is the truth, If I don't take a deposit - Hector will sell the wood while I am not looking.  :o

Part of what makes this work is that our website gets lots of people, some more interested in wood than in trees - so I get contacted. Harold is "supposed"  ;) to be out there cutting, and Hector is finding wood.

Hector can find anything and get anything done, but Harold has the expertise that we need. Of course, Harold needs our expertise as well - even though he doesn't always listen to it. (I keep telling him to get rid of the grits, but does he listen...  ::) )

Each of us doing what we do best should be a good combination.

Correct - You sell the poor stuff, and keep the good stuff for your own consumption.

You all know that - do I have to remind you of Wood Hoarders Anonomous?!  ::)

Fess up Janet - do you have a ultra select that you don't ship?  ???

Nope, Fred...I'd never admit it.  AND I wouldn' t have some poor worker thinking he was his own boss so he'd miss out on all the great bennies here.
:D

Sounds like this vac kiln is good as built.  ??? And I'm going to design it.  ???  ??? And it is going to be heated by the sun.  ???  ???  ??? And Harold is gathering parts from San Jose scrap yards.  ???  ???  ???  ??? Whew! My work is cut out for me.  :D

I've been talking with plantation owners in New Zealand, Australia and South America. Seems that some trees are getting big enough that they don't want to use them for their intended, low value use but now want to dry thicker, high quality wood as they thin the trees.

Exactimente' Den. We are pioneering the first homebuilt in Central America. You DO have your work cut out for you. Think of the commissions if we are successful and start to market them.  ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D 8) 8) 8)

The issue is sort of like this:

1. If there is prime rib (I figure I can explain anything to this crew using food) then I want prime rib.
2. But, if there is no prime rib, I'll take steak,
3. But if there is no steak - I'll take whatever doesn't move (or is slow)

For example, people used to turn their noses up to young teak - doesn't matter now. If all you got is young teak, you buy it.

Since I have talked to people from India and Malaysia seeking teak - it looks like things are getting a little thin out there.

So, how did I end up here anyway?
