Tom

My nephew was here at the house yesterday to open presents.  He, his Mom, Dad and brother came over from the other side of the state.

We went out and messed with the sawmill for about a half hour. :)

Hmmmm-m--m
I wonder if he likes peas ???

CHARLIE

Only the offloaders get a can of Brand X peas. The guy running the mill gets a can of sliced peaches. ;)

Bibbyman

Yep,  like all the young men,  they want to start at the top. ;)

By boys will sometimes help around the mill but only if they can run the machine or tractor. >:(

Tom

He pulled some boards but we weren't out there long enough for anybody to go to work.  I hope he's dreaming about what he can do when he grows up.   That would be neat, wouldn't it?

whitepe

Tom,
It looks like the hook is in.  Set it!  ;D

I must be doing something wrong.  I can't
get my 13 year old son near my mill.
Does Woodmizer make MillingY2K3 for
Sony Playstation 2    ???

Hmmm.  A logging/milling video game.

I'd probably buy one.

blue by day, orange by night and green in between

Tom

Yeah, me too. I can just picture the adventures confronting old "chip' the logger as he searches the forests for  special trees for his mill and damsels in distress.  It would have to look like the Spyro game to keep me interested. ;D

chet

My sons are pretty bummed with dear old dad, >:( if they come home and find if I started without them. It dos'nt matter weather they run the equipment, wrestle the logs, offbear, or spiff up around the mill. WE ARE SAWING ;D
I am a true TREE HUGGER, if I didnt I would fall out!  chet the RETIRED arborist

Noble_Ma

My youngest son likes the mill and has always been a hands on kid.  The older one likes to watch ;D

Bro. Noble

It's funny about kids.  Why do they enjoy running and lifting weights,  but don't want to run and get me a 9/16 endwrench or lift bales/rocks/boards ?

Tom,

I'm not familiar with the Spyro game.
However the Milling Y2K3 game would have
bonus points for cutting nice burls and you would lose
points for cutting the log stops. ;D
I like the Damsels in distress part though.
A little romance might interest our female
forum members or at least my wife.  ;)

I can picture the game kinda being like Oregon Trail.

I wonder... would you get or lose points if you
had to boom someone to the log truck who was drunk and unmanageable?

Noble_Ma,
Nice pic of the youngun.
There must be a color problem on my monitor though.
It shows up blue not orange  ;D

Chet,
That's cool if your kids are that interested in
your milling. If you have a Woodmizer, do I
see a future article in the Woodmizer news?

Whitepe

Noble_Ma

Whitepe,

I was just trying to keep up with Tom ;D

Bibbyman

Noble,

I think the answer to your question is – The presents or absence of attractive young women watching them do the running and lifting.

And you differed as a kid how Bib ;D

When I look at my boys, I see myself.  Except, I was was more handsome, faster, stronger, ...........................  ;D

Frank_Pender

Well, what a neat picture who the young man to take back home and show his friends.  Well done in building memories,Tom.
I use to get the girls to come out to the farm and help take care of my cattle herd, 'till I got married and the cowboying had to stop and go to wrangling college textbooks.
I think you're on to something if you could the young ladies to come and watch him develop the muscles them you get get all the help you wanted, then some.

What a neat idea for the puter game. Begin by walking the forest looking for the perfect tree to saw, falling, yarding, loading, hauling, bunking up the log, and finally milling.  Perhaps someithing inthe advanced areas of sorting and grading.  Phd. level could be something in line with
marketing. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I have been reading the forum as a guest for about a year and enjoy the wealth of information and the jovial conversations. I finally had something to add to a post, and joined the forum. Here is my son at three years old, hooking up to go sawing. I can only hope he is as enthusiastic when he is old enough to 'really' help.

Welcome Stephen.

Say, your son's name isn't Perry is it?  Somehow he reminds me of this character on the forum named Perry (aka Whitepe)

I'll have to admit,  I'm a little partial to orange and green too.

Welcome Stephen,

Great lookin' kid you got there. Starting him out right.  Is that an LT30 or 40 that he's trying to hookup to?

Our fist Wood-Mizer was a 94 model LT40G18 with the Briggs engine.  Ah... Remember it well.  Took us down a whole new path.

My two sons are 30 and 32 now.  I keep wanting to get a DNA test done. >:(

Bib,

I know what you're talking about.  I have one son that's my shadow and the other runs when he sees me coming.   ;D  Not that he doesn't like me but he's afraid I'll ask him to go fishing, hike or worse, play with some wood ;D  He has no idea what his brother could possibley see in some of the stuff we do.  I guess that's what makes the world go round ::)
