Holy Smokes!   That's the hoist in the hanger of the Space Shuttle that holds it upright in hurricanes and moves it out of the door so that the big tractor can pull it to the launch facility.   What have you done !  I wouldn't want to be in your shoes when you show up for work tomorrow.  I'll bet the entire Congress and Senate both will be waiting at the door.  How you gonna fix it?   That things made from virgin mulidlsiwljnnoqlcnlaalmen.

Dale may have seen this before ;) It is the first time it has happened to us.

My partner and our employee were checking it out for a clutch job when the employee heard a strange noise .......... so he got out from under it, just in time! One of the safety latches held, one did not.

Last year when I was on vacation they had a hood latch fail on an older truck, it opened on the test drive @ 30 mph

The angle of the picture has me confused. What do the teeth engage ?

 The teeth in the first pic is the #1 safety catch. That safety was useless as soon as the chain broke. The lift has secondary safetys at each corner. The chain that broke lifts the back of the lift, the left safety cought and held, the right did not catch. The back up safety is 3/4" rod that is grabbed by a mechanism in the lift if the chain should break. The rod that held was twisted pretty bad, but it saved alot more dammage from occuring.

I remember when working on trucks we always put the lift on the safety stops. Basically up and then lowered to the next lowest level so if anything failed there was no movement of the lift and shifting of weight because everything was already mechanically engaged at all four corners.   Then jackstands at each corner if the vehicle was anywhere near the max. weight.

Then you always have one mooronie that has to go full tilt to the very top of the lift and hit the safety stops and stress out the lift everyone else has to use.  >:(

That is a very scary picture, especially when you see the lift post on the right is holding the truck up    and the left hand side is pushed out. I would say very close to total failure. That had to be a diaper experience, I bet after that the guy was just glad to be alive without a fryng pan head  8)

That scares the tar out of me , I never walk under stuff like that pictured ! Glad I use the old big oak stump method and crawl !  I know so many people that believe in those lifts or even those tinny little jack stands . I am glad nobody got hurt !
