I was sitting here watching TV, just shutdown the computer because a storm was on the way, when i heard on the TV that a county sheriff deputy reported a tornado on the ground. The location he gave is just alittle over 1/4 mile away. Thought to myself he must be cornfused from all the excitement and got his roads mixed up. Because i was looking out the window and there was no rain, not a breath of wind and the sun was shinning!!! Then the phone calls started landline, cellphones, they were all ringing asking if we were ok. I figured i'd take a hike out past the evergreen grove and see what all the hub-bub was about. Got there just in time to watch two twisters dancing across the horizon. So i would like to appologize to the deputy sheriff for thinking he had been smoking crack. If i'd thought there was even the slightest chance of spying a twister i'd have hauled the camera out there with me. A quick check revealed all the neighbors and there livestock to be in good health and no damage. My wife says this house has been here 156 years and hasnt been wiped out yet so we are safe, i told her sounds to me like we are way overdue! For all you folks east of iowa keep your heads down its headed your way.

Imerc, we have basements.  :D....

I have lived in the midwest all my life, and have seen a few tornadoes, but if one is aware of the weather and keeps an eye on the sky, you'll be ok most of the time. Tornadoes coming thru at night are worrisome, but you just gotta live with the odds I guess. Kinda like asking why someone lives in California with the earthquakes and fires, or Florida with the hurricanes, or even Colorado with the snowstorms.... ;D

Rich ,   That is axactly what the people in Utica , Illinois thought two years ago .  They are in a valley by the illinois river and all the bad storms had just skioed past them for over a hundred years .  Then one came for a visit right down mainstreet.  Quite a mess it made.

We lost power Sunday night and didnt get it back until around 10 the next morning. We had lots of rain and some wind but didnt think much of it.

Turns out, 1/3 mile south of us a tornado went through and took out all the trees in my neighors yard and laid one down across the power line.

We got real lucky on that one.

I think I would put my master bedroom in the basement. :D

Patty has a valid point. We all have difficult weather to deal with and we learn how in our own way. I have experienced -45C and a summer tornado and while I did not like it, I learned to live with it.

We've dodged the tornado bullet so far.  But the weather.com guy says we've had 64 tornados in Missouri so far this year.

Last Sunday the storms went through and the sun came out and then a little black cloud came over the hill and the wind came up.  I'd say it got to 70 mph there for about 10 minutes.  I went out to watch for tornados and was pelted by the little caps off of acorns and other debre.

The storms came through about 9:00pm last night agian.  I don't know if it even rained but we sure got hail!  It started comeing from the south and then it sounded like it was coming straigt down and then it came from the east.  Our front door faces east and only has a short step to get in the house.  Water was runing under the door.  The hail had built up against it about 1' deep.

This picture was taken out our front door about 10 minutes after the storm stopped.  Son Gabe said it was twice as high.

Sounds like Dorthy, out in Kansas is mixing up some weather to keep us entertained later on today. ???

Hail got us bout 3 weeks ago.  Few dents in my truck while in Arkansas but the boss's car had $1,000 worth of dents.  She was out driving, but parked under a big tree or it would have been worse.
