So what's firewood selling for in your part of the world ???  How's the current demand ???  What's stumpage or hardwood pulp costing ???  Not many people are advertising firewood up here at the moment.  I talked to a fellow producer Monday and he said he's usually slow at this time.  I know I am but it's  8).  I needed a break ;).  Another guy stopped in today for a visit and to see the machine and he's slowed up too.  His son and I were best friends in school til they moved away.  He's 67 years old and thinking about retirement.  He told me he'll start sending his customers my way when he decides to quit 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)  He sold 600 face cords last season and has been in the business for quite awhile 8)  He's figuring on raising his price from 60 to 70 bucks a face cord when he switches to seasoned wood in August.  I just closed a deal for 10' mixed hardwood at $61.00 a cord 8) 8) 8).  I've been paying between $65.00 and $70.00.  I'm getting 40 cords for sure and will get an additional 20 if it's available.  My plan is to process it into a big pile and load it with the front end loader this winter.  No standing out in the cold running the machine ;)  I want to put up at least 60 cords myself.  I sold 300 face cords in 3 months last winter.  I'm planning on more this winter ;D  I've got several 15 cord orders to fill now and a couple people that are stocking up at a rate of a couple cords a month.  I'm going to start advertising again the middle of May thru the middle of June when I start haying.  In the meantime I'm going to stockpile all that I can.  I'm not setting any prices yet til I see what the price of fuel does for delivery.  I haven't decided whether to add a per mile charge for delivery or raise the price of the wood.  What do you guys do?  So far fuel is the only input expense that has gone up.  I'm expecting the cost of pulp to rise.  It has to with the cost of fuel and steel :(

I just got almost $90 for 8 foot pulp.Firewood is being sold for $150-$350.I was told about an hour from my place firewood is going for $350 and this is not in the city.Firewood is in high demand. Some guys run outlast year.Dry wood is really high.Stock pile all you can.I'm not setup for firewood.I would much rather twitch it out tree lenght, push it up in a pile, saw it every 8 foot, call up my trucker and collect my money.Don't have to deal with the publis either. This wood is coming off from a grown up pasture.I have alot all ready cut for me.My brothers wood will come next.

Here good dry split maple hardwood cut up in 16" chunks is around 165.00 CDN per  full cord  8x4x4 delivered in about a 10 mile radius. That would be about 150.00 per full cord  in $US.

The stumpage is about 15- 20 dollars per cord...

The worst problem is getting paid from the customer, you have to make sure you have the money in hand before you dump off the wood...

I only sell a small amount to customers I know or friends...

If you try to run your operation from the woodlot, unwanted customers will visit in the off hours looking for a huge discount...

They sell it and then steal it again. ::)

We used to stockpile about 1000 cords or better.  Most of it went wholesale and we used a knuckleboom loader to load trailers.  We would also sell to the public, but they had to pick up.

Now, we don't even bother with the public.  Cut and split into a trailer and deliver year round.  No drying, no double handling, etc.

As for price, scragg logs are selling around $38/ton.  3 ton/cord comes out to $114 without having to handle.  The other factor is that 1 cord of wood is equal to about 100 gallons of oil.  Then there is the matter of stove efficiencies.  If the wood is too highly priced, then oil is very competitive, especially if it drops in price.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

I am selling 3 cord loads off my trailer in lengths from 8 to 14 feet, and getting between 80 and 100 dollars a cord from one shot customers and 60 per from one guy who sells dry split wood in the winter.  He gets the better price because I can take him a load any time.

Funny thing is I took a load of low grade logs to the mill and only got 177 dollars.  I couldnt sell it for firewood cause over half was aspen/poplar and it doesnt make good burning wood.

$160/cord, $190/cord, $230/cord are figures I here. Mine was $180/cord delivered last season. Hardwood pulp is around $85/cord, stumpage $10-$25/cord. I have a 200 gallon oil tank that costs about $800 to fill. Do the math. ;)

Firewood in the southern part of New Hampshire varies greatly the closer you get to a city the higher the price goes.  There are ads in the paper for green chunks at $95.00 per cord, it does not say whether that is delievered or not. There is one local company that sells thousands of cords per year kind of the Home Depot of firewood suppliers who right now are getting $165.00 per cord delievery extra based on mileage.

A freind who sells 50 or so cords a year was getting $225.00 per cord last winter and has kept his price the same so far this year.  It use to be you could buy green wood for a little less than "seasoned" wood but it seems lately that one price fits all now.

With fuel prices remaining high more people will be turning to wood for heat once more.  Demand for wood pellets is high.  Many are turning to wood pellets because they require less storage room, are cleaner both in burning and storage, and easier to transport.

Mark Everingham brought me this wood last weekend.  These loads were the first 36 cords and another was brought in later that day.  That'll last a month or so next winter :)

All 54 pulp cords.  If this winter's sales are like last winter's it'll last about a month but no more than 6 weeks 8) 8)

Corley 5 ,
Nice pic's of firewood delivery.
This is a thread that I'am quite interested in. I'am getting $230. a cord delivered right now for green fresh cut wood. The demand is good . Stumage is $25 - $40 a cord ( central Ontario) same as it has been for the last 20 years! I do most of my own logging but I did buy a few loads @ $1300 for about 12 cord. He is a local guy and said he was getting $1500. if he had to go far.
Most of the competition are asking more - up to $325. for dry wood.
I sell mostly seasoned wood starting in August - November ,then once the snow comes I am in the bush till spring and start processing March to end of June.
