I was stacking the walnut from my weekend adventure and starting to reflect, as those of my age begin to do. I was thinking about when I bought my mill and how I thought I would cut a few logs for myself so I would avoid paying retail for lumber. Anyway I am looking around in my barn and I have like 10,000 bdft of lumber sawn out. I have about 5000 dry and 5000 air drying and another 1000 of red oak in my kiln that is dry and I am still going to cut another 1000 of red oak out of the old log pile. I have a kiln dry pile of 4" thick basswood and 1000 board feet of butternut to cut yet.

My wife who has the heart of a saint is looking around going "ARE YOU INSANE" so I just am wondering if anyone else is effected by this condition :D
I really do have plans for all that lumber, oh yeah, I forgot about the pile of curly red oak. I think I need an intervention.............
I owe I owe so its off to work I go....

Mr Mom

Now dont let my wife see any pictures of the lumber beacuse she thinks that im nuts wanting a mill.

I have hopes that will be me in a couple of years after i get my mill. Just a dream of mine.

Does that mean that you are doing good or does that mean that you are doing bad?? I mean with all the lumber sitting around??
Now that you have all the lumber what is your plans for it??

     Thanks Alot Mr Mom

I guess the jury is still out on that. I will use some in my furniture building but I do have quite a stash. I do sell some from time to time although not as often as I would like. It would be nice to have a couple of buyers steady every month. It has been feast or famine sometimes I get several and then hit a dry spell. Which gives me time to increase my inventory :D

I have room for two more 1000 bdft piles one is already spoken for with the oak I will cut this weekend the other is still open. The problem I am having is once it is kiln dry I have no more room in my garage as I like to keep it away from the air dry lumber and the logs.

I would love to build a new building I even have a picture of it in my mind, but it just isn't in the cards right now. So move over horses I need the stall space  :D

Bad Boards - I commend your judgement.  It's a lot easier to find a good log than a good spouse... which makes them all the more precious!

Yeah those 2 x 10 x 10's really get in the way, so as a courtesy, I will
let you stack 2-3 hundred at my place. I will store them in my new
back deck.  ;D
Looking for a slabber

Man oh man, what a bunch of swell guys we have here on the forum. ;D  After all of the other auxiliary storage spaces are filled up, another option is to fill up a 40 foot shipping container and send it to me.  I would be MORE than happy to pay the shipping on it.  Heh, just a thought. ;)

I started out just trying to save on retail prices as well.  Now  I have more lumber than I will probably ever use, but  cannot pass up on free logs.  Meanwhile, more stacks on the driveway are being made and less floorspace in the shop is available because of all the wood.  The only thing that solves that is building projects and being picky about using only the best looking lumber in the pile.  Which of course makes for some fancy looking firewood come winter!  And I have stopped using plywood.  It is cheaper to use solid lumber for things like shelves and drawer bottoms.  With 20"+ boards it's only a matter of sending them through the drumsander.  I would spend more time driving to the big box store and picking through the stack of terrible looking plywood.  This is a good situation t find ourselves in, isn't  it? :)

BTW, my wife rolls her eyes( ::)) at me everytime I  come dragging another log home.  Her first question is always, " What are you going to do with it?"  But she hasn't said , "stop" yet.  Bless her heart!
I do what the little voices in my wife's head tell me to do.

-is it an afliction, or addicton?..  :D

I haven't bought lumber for 7 years, cept for an emergency sheet of plywood, and that was with my chainsaw mill.

LT40's gonna put me into some serious wood.

THen I'm going to be cellious dependant like you guys.. :o .... :D

Well, I just aquired 4.6 acres from the fine state of California, so I can move my sawmill operation over there away from  my house. Well my wife did not look real happy yesterday when she saw her parking spot had been replaced by 10 new logs. ;D
