I have a chance to get some nice poplar logs. Can any one suggest some markets for the lumber?

Is that Aspen poplar or da Tulip Poplar?

Chances are from your location, it's Aspen poplar. Most of the Aspen board markets are local so you just have to create your own markets. It is a nice creamy white wood that can be used for drawer sides, wall paneling (tongue and groved) or any similar use. Not the strongest wood and the log centers can be punky. Not a desired wood for most mills because it can be difficult to make any money selling Aspen lumber unless you have developed your own markets.

Aspen is not very good for exterior applications as it is not very rot resistant and turns black when it weathers.

Other than that, it's just great.

If it is true Tulip Poplar it is used extensively for trim and moldings.  If it is Aspen (aka popple) in addition to what Gary_C listed it makes a decent dimension lumber as long as it is kept dry.

I cut some nice 2x6 studs for a guy last year. He said they worked well. He had me cut all 2x6, 2x8 and 4x6 from the logs he had. 2 trees gave about 1200 bf yield and one tree had a lot of punky spots that were rejected, and a lead ball that was computed to be just over 30' high before being cut down. These were tulip Poplar.

Nice white aspen is used here for veneer. It's the core of alot of plywoods. I know one outfit that used it for making strawberry boxes. Then the plastics industry convinced the urbanite that plastic was better than fast growing, renewable aspen.  That's what gets my goat about plastic grocery bags, what's wrong with the paper ones? ::)
