Well, it's here.  smiley_horserider

It's VERY exciting. smiley_bouncing_pinky

The FORESTRY FORUM BOX Has made it all the way to the land of Oz!   pinkie_invert

Sent the boy child to the post office, and I just KNEW today would be the day! It's been a good day. My headache is only minimal, and we got a couple of new clients today. So, it's all good.

Here's the girl wonder with THE BOX:

As you can see, there's just a LITTLE bit of grinning involved.

Sasha panicked when Bob at the post office brought the box out from behind the counter, he was worried he'd not be able to carry it on his bike, but luckilly he took his backpack, and it sorta fitted. He said he rode home carefully.

Here they are showing some of the contents.

The sign is a REAL honest-to-goodness NATIONAL FOREST SIGN. It's too cool. I had to ring Andrew to tell him about it. He thinks it's cool too. He will be over tomorrow, and will see it then!

Notice the kids each wearing a SMOKEY THE BEAR Badge! Stephie is thrilled coz we both collect Bears. She has mostly Beanie Bears, and I have mostly handmade mohair or Steiff types, but gotta say, Smokey is just THE CUTEST bear EVER!

Can you see how Sasha's hanging onto the most magnificent little piece of solid (well liquid) gold ever!

I had to physically prise it out of his clammy little hands. Carefully :D

Here's a shot of Stephanie showing the Sign again, and also a YOOPER MAGAZINE!

It's FANTASTIC.

I'm going to read it from cover to cover, and, should anyone ever need to refer to a copy of Volume 17, #3, UP Magazine, in the next 100 years, give me a call, I'll still have one.

The Mag tells good stories, there's a story in the middle about a POLAR BEAR DIP. it does NOT look fun. Something about swimming in the lakes in the ICE. It's insane! There's a picture of a girl there, with bikini and SOCKS AND SHOES!!!  HAHAHAHA
Then there's a story of naked finnish people saunaing, and also a story about Lonnie, who was lucky, and a bear who wasn't so lucky. There's photos of tractors digging ice, and all sorts of ineresting funny lines on the bottom of the pages, for example: Artificial intellegence is no match for natural stupidity, and, "OK, I'll need a hammer and a chisel, maybe some rocket launchers, but this pickle jar WILL come open!"
Haven't finished reading it yet, that's just a flick through. Haven't found any shots of the boss or Chet there yet, but I'm still lookin'.

Oh, and, the Yooper mag reads normal, there's no accent at all!!!

MAPLE SYROP TASTING TIME:

Here's Stephanie after I syrop'd the bread. She promised not to cut her tongue off. I said she could if she liked (maybe it'd keep her quiet for a bit, but even so, I doubt it.).. hehe   ;)

Here's Stephanie eating her 1/3 of the piece of bread...

doesn't she look THRILLED!

Here's Sasha, who refused to stop chewing long enough to smile, so you have a smichew or a chemile or something...

Here's Stephanie, and I, and our little jar of gold!

Now, this Maple Syrop tastes just like the one you buy in stores...

KIDDING!!!

It's like about 1,000,000 times BETTER! It's so pure and yummy, and has such a sweet after taste, it's magnificent.
THANK YOU to whomever supplied it, I am just so thrilled (can you tell?)

THANKS ESPECIALLY TO THE BOSS AND BOSSETTE FOR SENDING THE BOX.  smiley_heart smiley_kiss (there's no send-a-hug smiley!)

I have nearly finished one thing to go into the box. Will make one more, then I have a few other bits and pieces to go in and I'll turn it around. Already know where it's going next. :D

PS: how many miles has it done NOW?

Asy, that's too big for the famous box. There should be a smaller box in there somewhere, about 6 inches cubed. That's some great items you got though. That reminds me, I have to find my 1969 edition of the Smokey Bear comic I have at the house.  ;D

I haven't put all the photos up yet!

There's a little box, that smells mysteriously of CAMPHOR WOOD.

Is that the famous box? I'll put a photo of it up tomorrow.

Hey Asy, don't forget the picture of the little smelly box.  Is it on its way to somewhere yet? :)
I can change my profile okay. No errors. If you can,t remove all the extra info in other fields and try.

Wow, so neet  watching the young ones eating the maple syrup. We have a sugar bush up here also and there is nothing nicer than when the kids come around and we get to give them samples of hot syrup while we are boiling. We alsways keep little sample bottles of syrup to give to the kids, big smiles always from them.
My Daughter is in Ge Long going to Deacon University. That is her request every time someone goes down there. Dad send me some syrup please.
enjoy.

I'll post a pic of the smelly box this arvo.

The box isn't on it's way anywhere yet, but I'm pleased to say I've finally finished my stuff to put into the box. My daughter is making something, and should be finished tonight, with my help.

It's full of all sorts of interesting stuff.

It's got some 'Aussie' stuff in it, and some handmade stuff, and some other stuff. A friend of mine contributed and went and got a few things he thought should go in there. Not sure one of them will FIT, but I'll give it a go.

Just how strong ARE your USPS guys??? ;)

Also I was going to send a bag of Macadamia nuts off my tree in the yard, but, I've been convinced that Customs may not like that, and it may stuff up the whole parcel getting there.

So sorry, to the recipient, it's going to be nut-free.

Tom

Our USPS guys are apparently pretty strong.  I've had them fold hard-backed school year-books in order to make them fit the mail box.  All manner of packaged goods have been shoved into the mailbox such that the boxes corners are crushed and the package assumes the shape of the official and approved rural mail box.

They are also quite creative.  When there is a package that has no way of being placed in the provided box, it is left at the bottom of the post and, ilnvariably, the heavens will open and soak the road for a distance of a quarter of a mile on either side of the box.   There must be a direct link to whoever is in charge of precipitation, that is possessed by the USPS, because, no one else in the history of the USA has been able to provide this service.   Many have tried by shooting cannon, dancing in circles, beating drums and praying, but, there is no one with the effeciency of the USPS.

Hey Stephen!

We did enjoy the Syrup, it's fantastic. There's still 2/3 of it left, but I'm on a VERY restrictive eating programme at the moment, probably until beginning of December, then I'll be fine again. It's sitting on the counter top and I look whistfully at it. (Should I store it somewhere other than the countertop?)

Deacon uni at Geelong is about an hour and a half's drive from where I grew up (and where mum lives).

How's your daughter enjoying Aussieland?

Hi Asy
I am not sure how much you have but if it is going to be around for more than a couple of weeks it should be stored in the fridge and if for a long time the freezer is best. I usually keep the gallon jug once opened in the freezer. It stops the mold from growing in it. Mind you if that does happen scrape the mold of the top and boil it again.
My favorite for the syrup is to put it on vanila ice cream.
My daughter loves it "down under" or maybe it is the boy she keeps going there to see. it is her 3rd time there. Her boyfriend is from a small town about an hr east of Geelong " memory's going "
We really hope she will come home at the end of the semester in December or maybe I'll be dropping in for with you when i go to visit her.
