Well, that particular shop had 3 generations, I guess they managed ok.  I reckon a 'couple of bucks' was better out of a junk pile than nothing at all.

I know it is out of my 'junk' pile, even when I render the part myself.  It is sure a lot better bringing in a buck than just sitting there collecting dust.

Sometimes, when someone comes in and it is just a matter of a small, quick adjustment, or knocking heck out of it with a bigger hammer, I don't charge them anything.  (however, the 'advertising' is relatively priceless).  Though, I would say that for the most part, they leave more money on the counter than I would have asked for anyhow, and it is on their terms.  (freedom of exercising options)

And, yeah, I have a never empty coffee pot, and folks come and hang out .

But, I would never presume any preferential treatment anywhere, anyhow, to 'get something for nothing', or to get something cheap.

In all honesty, I have never been in business to make money.  Sure, I have to live and money has to switch hands to stay in business, but I have always been in business to provide a service(s).  Money is just a 'necessary evil'.

I know.  This 'old way' of doing business is not too popular these days.

I reckon the 'good news/bad news' is, I've been in business for about 35 yrs/I don't ever plan on retiring.   :D
