Patty,

My wife went over to her 40th high school reunion in Eastern Washington this weekend.  Kind of looking for her to get home because she said she was going to try to pick up some fresh peaches.  We have one tree of them but they are still weeks away from getting ripe.  Few things better then a tree ripe peach!

Peach season in the mid-South runs from late May/early June thru late August, so the season is winding down.  Had an orchard (17 acres) for many years,  but after 3 late frosts in a row, was ready to give it up;  new by-pass was gonna get part of it and contractor wanted to buy more for fill-dirt, so had the perfect opportunity to quit;  that's been 20 years ago; don't miss the work........there was something to be done about 9 months out of the year.........but I do miss the fresh peaches.  No comparison to what you get from the grocery store.

Really liked your ink pen;  one of the things on my to-do list--learning how to turn pens;  have realized I'm not gonna live long enough to get it all done  :-\
Here's to us and those like us; DanG few of us left!

We used to get them down in Missouri, down by Cape Girardo. I tried to have them shipped in from Colorado last year, but that didn't work out. I guess it is back to Google to see if I can find some this year.  ::)   The ones from the grocery store are just awful.

Wow those peaches are sure pretty there Onthesauk. We planted a couple peach trees last year, but it will be a few years before we are picking any peaches I am afraid.

My wife just got home and brought a full box of peaches and tomatoes.  Peaches aren't fully ripe, but so much better then what we get in the stores.  BLT sandwiches for supper tonight with fresh Yakima Valley tomatoes.

I got my ma 4 cases of california peaches and she canned them all and they were so huge and nice she had to quarter them to fit in the quart jars .  The taste is excellent so it must have been a good peach crop in california this year . Peaches and cottage cheese mmmm hmmm !

I tried growing Gurneys select dwarf peach trees and they all died the following spring but looked promising that first year . Lost 500 black walnut transplants and 2 pear trees that same spring . Gurneys gave me back all my money on the peach and pear trees which I thought was nice of them . I guess it just gets cold up here  ::)

I picked a bag full yesterday, they are not quite ripe yet. Good sized and deep pink color, but still real firm. I just got a call from a farmer who said he had a "big" peach tree go down did I want any of it for the wood. It is at an old abandoned farmhouse on some land he farms and the tree was huge. It has not been pruned for decades and the fruit overburdened the leaning tree (we had some wind and they didn't shake loose and the tree fell) I dug through and picked some decent looking fruit and am going back after some little logs in a few days. My Grampa has a peach tree that puts on peaches that the juice runs down your arm and drips off your elbow when you pull one off and bite into it...I can't wait till they are ready, I think my mouth just watered a little.

Lordy, I love peaches.  Illinois peaches would  be good, I'm sure.  Most of us down here prefer Georgia peaches.    Yep!  both kinds.  :D

Gael bought 3 big peaches, chilled them and put them in my lunch box, one a day for 3 days.  I was too full to eat them after my sandwich, but, I sure devoured them on the way home.  They were the Juice-running-down-the-arm, freestone, kind.   I want some more.

They can't make a artificially flavored peach drink that tastes as good as one of those real peaches.  I sure wish they could.

My better half processed a box of canning peaches today.  We have another box to do--not fully ripe yet.  Home canned are so much better than the canned peaches from the store.  digin_2

We've been eating Ontario peaches for the last 2 or 3 weeks now. But, I'll say that what ever variety they all turned to about 10 years ago yields smaller peaches. They taste fine and all and nice and juicy, but not like the ones we got years ago. Some people think they have to 'improve' stuff.  ::)

I had some fresh Okanagan peaches today for dessert. Not big but oh man so sweet and juicy. No cream or anything, just peel and eat. That was after the tomatoes right off the vine and on the plate.  8)

Peaches are just coming in right about now here in Michigan, and we'll have 'em for a few weeks yet.  Just picked up some white peaches today at the farmer's stand, planning on making a peach and berry crisp for a cookout on Sunday.  Don't know which berries I'll be using until I go to the farmer's market tomorrow morning!   8)

I love the white peaches, as well as Red Havens.

Gotta love this time of year!   8)

Went to visit a guy we know yesterday, He has a farm and specialises in growing seedlings, but on the way in to his place we passed groves and groves of PEACH TREES!!!

I asked, and HE OWNS THEM!!!

The next question I asked is...  "When will they be ripe"

The answer was: Mid October.

The NEXT comment was: "So, I'll me here at the End of October? Yes??? " hehe

So, End of October, I'm OFF to get a box (or two) of PEACHES! Yummo!

A 3 lb basket here is usually $4 or $5 but they have to come from 100's of miles.

We've been eating off our tree for the last week or ten days.  Small fruit, (variety name is Frost Peach,) but very, very sweet.  Thing I can never get over is the smell of a fresh peach vs. what they have in the stores.

Company coming on Friday and have their choice of fresh peaches, blueberries or strawberries on their cheesecake.
