Yesterday I finally got around to stickering some lumber I cut on Saturday.  Took the lumber over to the pile I was going to sticker it on, and then went to the shed to get some stickers.  I air dry my stickers outside, and then put them up in the trusses in my shed only one layer thick for a while more before dead stacking a bunch of them up there.  As I was pulling some of the stickers down, I noticed some black things on one of them.  Sure enough, they were carpenter ants  >:(  Got up there to get a better look, and as I got into a bunch more ants, I also started seeing those DanG wood roaches too....YECH!

These stickers were nice and dry when I stacked them up there, but when I got into the infested part of the pile, there was wet sawdust in there.  So, are the roaches or ants bringing wet sawdust in to make a nice cozy home, or is it excrement of some sort?  (nothing really discolored or anything, just damp).  Now I'm starting to worry about the thousands of board feet of dry lumber that I have dead stacked on the floor of the shed  :(

So which came first, the roaches or the ants  :-\

Do they eat roaches or ants  ???  :D

Wait, my dog chases chickens...nevermind  :-\

Furby

Same problem here Ohsoloco.
The new dog caught one of our chickens earlier tonight.
Got her pretty good, my Mom thought the chicken was dead, but she's still alive.

Coon

the best bug patrol is birds of anykind.  They lovem.  Get some wild turkeys around the yard.  They'll keep em down and da dawg wont be a chasin hound no more. :D :D

Problem is, birds can't really help me out in the shed  :-\  I actually looked to see if the roof was leaking to create a moist environment for them to live in.  I just can't figure out how they got my good, dry stickers wet  ???

A few months ago I took my dog to visit a friend at his farm.  Maya was alright for a little while around the animals, but then she noticed how intriguing the chickens were.  The dog bolted for one, the chicked started making all kinds of ruckus, and my friend yelled "don't kill the chickens!"  Should've seen us trying to catch that dog  :D  I even ran through some nettles trying to get her  :(

At least with the stickered lumber all I get in there are mice and chipmunks.  The dog is a good mouser (sort of)...she got another one today.  Unfortunately she would rather play with them, so they usually end up getting away  ::)  One day the mouse she was chasing just stopped  and looked her right in the eye.  She doesn't know what to do with them if they aren't moving.  Then it bolted up her leg...shoulda seen the dance the dog did  :D
