yep, thats right, none! ive got a slight problem with my 684 that im wondering one or more of you knowledgeable gentlemen could help me with. you see, it seems that she missfires over 700 rpm, and eventually stalls. ive been through the intire fuel delivery sys., except the injection pump, with 60 or so psi, cleaned it right out. i can get her to run, but no fuel bubbles out of the bleeder screws. the only way to get her to squirt out the screws is to pressureize the tank. when its runnin, i crack all the injectors and get fuel, but none out the screws. the service manual sez the injection timing advances around 1000 rpm, up to 2550 it should be advanced to 16 deg btdc. but i need a timing window to check inj timing on the bosch pump, dont have one.
any diesel mechanics out there wanna help me get these logs out of the woods, id hate to spend 800 bucks or so for a new pump if i dont need one.
 thanks, jonathan.

Sure sounds like fuel delivery to me and I just went through it. I ran low on fuell and crap out of the tank loaded the fuel filter.  It would idle but that's all.  Sounded like a gas engine with half of its spark plugs not fireing.  New filter fixed it.

bleed screws on the pump should run fuel just from the gravity flow.  It sure sounds like dirt to me.

i agree, dirt or spit or gel or something. and, gravity should maker flow. been thru ALL of the lines twice or thrice and gave the tank a good flushin, to no avail. the filters i took off wer original 1981 vintage, weighed about 5 pounds apeice! couldnt believe it was runnin on that crap! thats why im worried about the pump. nope, cant get the gravity flowin the red stuff, the screws over each filter, and will spray nicley when the tank is pressurized. the only thing i think is left to do is remove all lines again and test each at certian psi. hafta figger out how to gauge it. mabie theres some gel or grease ???jabbed up in them lines sommwhere? fun fun fun. i should be pickin rocks with this thing! more productive.

You can check your pressure with a tool called a Mighty Vac, start with your pump first because that's what it sounds like to me. .

Would it be his pump if it won't gravity feed, bizie?

biziedizie

Me thinks that the gravity feed is working but there's a check valve at the filters. The pump sucks the juice and then sends it out under pressure.
I would still throw a Mighty Vac on the pressure end to be sure.
Let me know if ya want to borrow one as I have two of them.

Johnathan if you want a Mighty Vac check the auto stores, it's an American made product and it's very popular so you should be able to find one. Get the one with the dial on it as it does alot more, you can check alot of things with it and they really are worth their weight in gold.
When you attach it to your pump you can pump it up and see if it holds pressure, if it does then the pump is good.
There should also be a transfer pump inside your injection pump so check that too. It should run at around 80 to 100 psi. I've seen them run at 400 psi so check with your manual.
The check valve should be at the top where the filter screws in and if ya poke it with your finger it should move.
Another thing that I was thinking about is do you have a pressure regulator hooked to your governor?
Also before you pull it apart maybe see if your governor spring is sticking.
If ya tell me the exact make/model/year I will think of some other things to check.

Have you changed brands of fuel lately. When my dad changed from Cenex to Amoco, one of our older Ford tractors(Ford 9000) started to not regulate the rpm under load. It was as the govenor was bad inside the injector pump. After alot of messing around with filters and new fuel pump I searched on the net and found out that the new fuels are really dry(low sulfer) and their lubricating properties were poor. There was alot of talk about additives but in the end it was a 99 cent quart of tranny fluid(ATF) dumped in the fuel tank that solved the problem.

You could also have some rust flakes or dirt floating in the tank and their blocking the fuel outlet. Also check for collapsed/kinked fuel lines. Fuel line could be clogged with rust or sludge.

Good luck
