I spent 2004 peckin around and doing a lot of reading, but not really planning on joining. That there DanG kept on and on about getting on and being a part of the forum so in March of 2005 I decided I'd log on. Ever since it's been an education, a way good folks can find their common interest and a whole lot more. Over time I've learned that it takes a lot more than good ideas to make the forestry form work.

Hats and shoes off to everyone that keep things steered in the right direction. I'm talking about the thankless job the admins have to keep things cleaned up and the members that want to see it stay that way.  And let's don't forget the sponsers.  8)

I think I found this place from Google. I am pretty sure I was researching chainsaw stuff. I do know my first post was in the chainsaw section, and was on the side of levity. A harbinger of my participation.
I have since become a bastion of wisdom and seriousness, avoiding comedic relief entirely.

Nah, just read the word over the US flag on your avatar.

My first post was in March 2005

I was making an offer on a woodlot and wondering what to do if I got it so I searched the internet on this fancy new gadget called a laptop. Stumbling in here is just like stepping in quicksand - even when you don't do anything you can't leave  ;D

I usually step in once a day.  8)

I finially decided to check in on this thread.....and.....I've been here 3 years almost to the day.

Wow, Lee! I didn't realize you had been here longer than me! :o

Let's see now, your avatar says "Proud to be a Texan" but you bounce back and forth between Arkansas and BFE. ??? ::) They kick you out of Texas, or you just trying to get away from Staples? ;D

Didn't get kicked out, just couldn't handle all the angry, in a hurry, hords that were moving in around me and the contruction that came with them. I decided to go somewhere with a little slower pace of life. We were gonna try Tennesee and decided to look in Arkansaw on the way. We liked what we saw there and the people we met. Land was cheaper too, so now I got 105 acres a stones throw away from Arky. I guess I'll always be a Terxan at heart, but I imagine Ill finish my days in Arkansas.

Just so you know I wasn't trying to be the Faux Pas Police. When I read your post I decided to check my own join date, but instead of clicking my own profile I absent-mindedly clicked yours. ::)

When I saw that June 9th join date i thought "Wow I joined the day before my marriage anniversary. My anniversary is tomorrow yikes I gotta plan something!!!!" But then I began to see other things that just didn't look right and the Faux Pas was on me. ;)

Thanks though, for reminding me of my annivesary. ;D

Ours is on the 18th. Makes 30 years for us. I reckon we're gonna go play on the lake and fish some. How long you got invested?

We have two sort of. I have told the medium length version several times so I spare the regular suspects the repitition and be brief. I gave her a promise ring in 1976. I kept my promise on my birthday (her idea) June the 10th, 2004. So we have 31 years and 3 years to celebrate. My math says tha equals 34 years I guess we got you beat. :D

Hey! My brother's birthday is on the 10th as well. Mine was the third, and I worked with a fellow once that had the same birthday as me. I know it's not earth shattering, or scream from the mountain top news or anything. ;D

Happy anniversary anyway for whom ever where ever.  ;)

I joined September 30, 2006, 07:21:39 PM. Thanks to Jim_Rogers! I had been searching for several different forums, timber framing, blacksmithing, etc., and not having any luck. I started my own forum in early 2006, only to have it crash after having only one member sign up. ::) Then I met Jim at a Timber framing workshop and he sent me here.  8) I have found answers to a lot of questions. I have found plenty of things to amuse myself. But most importantly, I have found a bunch of new friends!

I'd spent a couple of months attaining cost information about building my mill. By the time I thought I had explored all the potential cost, I'd already expended more than half what a mill like I wanted would cost. Not to mention, a factory purchased mill would have been designed, tested with time and already functional. No bugs to work out. I've not operate one mill but seen several before I placed my order with Woodmizer. The internet had allowed me to see all of our sponsors. I considered the pros and the cons decided by me and not the factory literature. I had also kept up with WM for about 20 years and seen the improvements. This forum is not only the finest information and people network for our like minds, but the best information link to inquiring minds. I'd hung around for a couple of months before I placed my order with WM. Once I did, I wanted like minded people to know.

I have been wandering around here ever since I decided to go to Costa Rica to grow trees. I suspect that is a lot of years now. I even been around long enough to know what is Yooper Night!
So, how did I end up here anyway?

first post : just an introduction
https://forestryforum.com/board/index.php?topic=19682.msg281668#msg281668

i got here from a google search looking for timber framing info. I have always loved to work with wood and plan to eventually build a timber frame home. I fell into the sawmill portion because i thought wow how cool would it be to take a truck load of logs (man there are some huge doug firs and cedars around here) and turn it into my own usable timbers and demensional lumber and lumber to do bowl turning and furniture building... whew almost wore myself out there. I did some logging with my grandfather and dad in the late 70's, early 80's in Virginia. Took logs to an old circle saw mill but never until i came here knew anything about bandsaw mills and the possibility of one being in my price range was amazing. (Still drooling over getting one someday)

I (and i am sure my wife would agree) wonder if i could ever possibly do all the things i can envision but, i am positive that i will keep working on something up till the end. I appreciate all the information that is so freely passed here. It is a welcome relief from the corporate attmosphere i work in for the day job. I am an Infrasturcture Architect (fancy title for Network/Sytem designer) but, my love is to be in the woods.

Thanks again for everyones participation it is what keeps this site so interesting.

I found my way to this Forum through a link from an article on Warden Sawmill (Bibbyman) on the WM site. I had bought a LT 15 in June of that year and was trying to find anything on sawing I could. Went to Moultrie just a few days later and met my first members. DanG, Tom, Woodbowl, DonE911, Captain, Ga Boy, Thiggy, FCPineknot, and a few more. I have enjoyed every minute of my time here, about 14 1/2 days total time logged on, and have learned alot. My wish is that I could meet the members I have come to know so much about. Thanks for a great place Jeff, and all the work that everyone does and hats off to our sponsors
