Well here are a few pics from our trip in to put up the cabin

This pic is taken from the top of the island where we live looking towards the mainland. As you can see there is still open water , we pass to the east of this hole. This is the thinnest section and you cross at good speed. It is thicker once you reach the other side . It is cold here again tonite so its getting thicker every day

Here is apic of our cabin we took it down last spring  and stored it in the woods under a plastic tarp for the summer.

Here is the wife eyeing things up. I your wondering why the childs coachbox kometick is hanging in the second pic, we use it to carry our winch/chainsaw/gas etc down the path each day and bring it back in the evenings. Sure beats carrying all that stuff back and forth in your arms

And presto 2 hours later we have a place to sit in and warm up and have something to eat . Nothing beats fried moose and a good slice of homemade bread after a mornings work. Did I mention the wife and I got a moose this fall.

Nice set up you have there. It sure is nice to get out of the weather once in a while. How far by snow machine is it from your home to where you go on the mainland ? I assume it is where you do your cutting? Its nice your wife enjoys it as well.

Thanks for the update. Just seems we should be praying for cold, freezing weather for you, so you can enjoy your winter....just the way you like it... ;D ;D ;D

Did you get all of last years logs sawn up over the summer? Sell all the lumber locally, or building for yourself?

That looks like some "extreme logging" and conditions. ;) Well planned.

I did not manage to saw all my logs this summer. I could have but I made no hurry. Most of them will be used to build a new workshop so no rush I plan to start on the floor this spring

Here are most of the logs I have left

I sawed a few long 17' logs for rafters and foundation early this fall. too big to roll in through the side door so i used my winch to haul them in through the end

sawed them

Used some of them to start this crib .My workshop will set on top of this after i take down the white shed that is in the way. My workshop will have water basement when the tide is high

Here is a pic of my sleigh that i use to haul slabs home with . Load it up pull it into the water with my boat and then my freind pulls  it up the ramp  onto the wharf with a forklift. I then saw them up and put them in the basement to burn. Use it all I say

Great thread 'newf'. I made it up along the river as far as the Saguenay mouth last fall. ;D Still a long ways up there from Saquenay River.  ;) You and the wife are some real troopers of the north.  :)

Well that makes it look easy down here in tropical Northern CA. You're one hardy couple. I scoot my chair toward the woodstove a little just thinking about it up there....

How many logs do you two get cut and hauled in a average day?

You sure are lucky not to have the weather we are having right now.  One word- MUD ::)

A good day for me cutting is about 40 logs , this can vary greatly depending on size of logs and length also how hard I want to work. We haul a load home each on these days which is approx 15 to 20 logs total. This can vary also with hauling conditions and size of logs. If the sea ice is sticky as when its mild you have to cut down your load. Some days when hauling conditions are goodwe may just haul. I have hauled 100 home in just one day.

Log amount is what I was aiming at.  I think you sleep good at night too.
