I have the chance to buy a Wood-Mizer LT40HD G24 from the original owner. The mill has very low hours at only 178. I personally have have put 50% of those hours on this mill. The VIN # 456A52413MIEC7283 built in May of '91. The mill is in really good condition, nothing is broken or missing, just some faded paint and rust in a few spots. I'm just looking to find what a fair price of this mill would be.

What options were available at that time? I know what the mill has but I just don't know what came standard and what were options.

Berkshire,

Any chance you can post a picture of the mill? Estimating value blind is a bit difficult. WoodMizer has an "orange book" that will give you a high/low range of value on the machine. If that mill has been taken care of, has been under cover without much rust, and the hours are accurate - I'd guess it to be in the $8000.00 to $10,000.00 range. Buying it in that range you could definitely get a good return from the machine on your investment.

You can call Wood Mizer.  As stated above, they can provide you with an estimated range of value based on age, hours, condition.  Also, take a look on Sawmill Exchange.  You can get an idea of what other owners are asking for comparable mills.  Finally, there is always eBay.  Look at completed auctions to see if any similar mills were recently listed and what they brought.

The good news is that if you have already used the mill extensively AND you are still interested in buying it, you already know that it is not a lemon.  You already have a leg up on someone who would consider buying it "blind".

Thank you for the replies. I'll post some pictures of the mill next month, as I don't live close to where  the mill is located.

Less then $6 grand you stole it and more then $10 grand you must really like that mill.  On equipment low hours on an old machine is worst then high hours some times.  Since you have sawn with it then I would not be afraid of it.  My guess is $8 grand to be in the ball park.  Remember you have to compare Oranges to Oranges in this case.  ;D

I will get you a quote tomorrow. I will be out today.  There was no Debarker option in 1991.

Guess I missed that call.  Wanda must be worth a fortune by now.  But she does have close to 5 diget hours now and could stand a major rebuild.

Is this hydraulic?  Seeing as a new LT40 is around what, $25k i would think one with 178 hours would be worth quite a bit.  Boy, that would be a good find.

You gotta love a WoodMizer for re-sale value. They're like a Lexus or Toyota. Well built and hold their value.
