Marcel, Marcel....poor, out-of-touch-with-reality, french guy.  The Flyers are the strongest when they come from behind.  Pulling it out in the clutch is what they do best.  They've spent years, and years, and years, perfecting the APPEARANCE of losing, only to suddenly pounce upon an over-confident prey.

We shall see tonight.   8)

Yes it was!!   8) 8)

Sunday's game is going to be real interesting since the Pingouins haven't lost a game at home for 15 straight games.

Can the comeback kids stay in the playoffs?

Note to TexasTimbers:  The empty net goal was a daring prediction.  You saw the goal alright, but it belonged to the orange guys!

Sometimes being wrong sure feels good! I have a tendency to pull for the underdogs. Plus it's always better for hockey if the series are competitive. Glad they won!

Now, predictions for Saturday from y'all . . . how bad will the Wings decimate my men in Green? :D

I was listening to some Dee-Troit sports talk yesterday while I was working in the shop. I could not find anything more than a couple of casual refernces to the Wings! All they are talking is Pistons. And get this, there was more time devoted to the TIGERS than the Wings. ::)

I can tell you that all of the local sports guys here are predicting the Wings will finish it Saturday. Common sense really. Turco, for some reason, loses part of his motor skills in JL Arena. He just plain sux in Detroit. I think he is from there too!

The local theory is that since he SO bad, and predictably so, that the team can't play up to their level because they feel going in they don't have a chance. Wonder why. He has never won a game there.

There is no question who has the most talent. The Wings are one of the better teams we've seen in a while. All things being equal, on paper they look unbeatable right now. But that isn't how sports competitions always work, and IMO especially in hockey. If it did work that way there would never be upsets.

If the Stars can find that spark like they finally found again in game 4, they have a chance. If we could find that Jeff Galooley guy what did that little trick to that Kerry Jernigan skater in the Olympics, and whack 'ol Osgood's knee right smart, we might have a fighting chance. ;D

So my prediction? I predict that Don Cherry (wow! can that guy dress or what!?  :o ) is right. He says both Dallas and Philly could win another but that Philly has a better shot at upsetting the Panguns than does the Stars with the Hot Wings. Of course anyone who watches hockey even casually knows that plays the odds correctly, and I predict . . . . he is right.

The Stars won because they did not want to get humiliated at home by getting swept. I know I predicted up top that we would upset them but of course now it is getting closer to game time and the fact is I see no chance for them - based on Turco's past play at JL Arena.  I WANT then to win and wish I could WILL then to win, but my friends it just ain't happening. All I am hoping for at this point is that they at least fight likhell and compete, and don't go down shamefully.

I hope that even if Turco stinks to high heaven that the M&Ms (Morrow, Modano)  and Zubov (one of the best pucksters on both sides of the line in all of  hockey!) and all those younger guys led by Richards and Rebiero, Robidas and Norstrom (tough as a boot) will scrap for their lives and try and save this one for Marty. They sure owe it to him. He got them through two series they were supposed to lose and lose big against the Shark. Many "experts" predicted an outright sweep by the Sharks.

But now we see who is playing the best in the month of May and it is the Dee-Troit Hotwings. If we can stay within a goal or even two by the 3rd, we have a chance. If we get 3 goals behind - even in the first - might as well call Dandy Don Meredith in and hand him the mic . . . .

"Turn out the liiiights . . . thuuu pardy's overrr . . .alllll good thiiiings must ennnnd . . . ."

Hate to end a post like that though, I have to say something positive for my team. In case you Yanks and Canucks don't keep up with the Western conf. (and I think you do not, I probably wouldn't if I grew up, up there in true hockeyland) the Sharks were widely picked to win it all this year. We man-handled them. But it was because of Marty in large part. Yes we did it without our best player in Zubov (thank God is he back for this series or it might already be over) and we had suprising consistent play from what was supposed to be our weak defensive 2nd and 3rd lines, but what got us through besides Marty having great games when he had to, was the whole team showed more determination and grit than all the alledged stronger, more talented lines they faced in both series. They played like it was 1999!

Y'all missed some of the best hockey in recent history in that 2nd round series. We have been blessed to have Daryl Reaugh as our color man for the last 12 years, whom you hockey fans know for sure, and he said it would be exteremely hard to imagine a better series or even Cup than what that series turned out to be. He said in the 4 OT game "I have seen alot of hockey in my day but this has to be one of the best, if not THE best I have seen in many, many years and for more reasons than 4 OTs!" We have not shown that yet against the Wings except game 4 of course. After game 1 I was outright disgusted for their Failure To Compete! They looked like the Bad News Bears on ice.

So now for that positive note I want to end my e-book on . . . if Turco has a great first period, if he gets the opportunity to make at least a few good saves, and makes them, and 1 or 2 inhuman stops, that may be enough to keep them in it. That's all I can hope for because if he collapses early (or at all) they are toast. Was that positive?

C'mon Roxie, pull for the Stars. If you do I will switch my allegiance to your Flyers. ;D Sorry, Marcel. ::)

Actually, I have been pulling for the Stars.   :)  I happened to watch the 4 OT game because I was also waiting for my beloved PBR (Professional Bull Riding) which followed the game.  Needless to say, I was up until 3:30 AM because the bulls didn't get started until 2:30 that night.

The sweat those guys on both teams were putting out that night would have made a fan of anyone.  I wished they could both be declared winners that night because they both deserved it.  But there is something about that "gravel in yer gut, spit in yer eye" that transcends skill only.  The Stars have that.  The Flyers have that.

Welcome to the fans of the Broad Street Bullies!

Roxie, thats the first post you ever made that makes me think YOU MIGHT NOT BE QUITE RIGHT! :)
I can change my profile okay. No errors. If you can,t remove all the extra info in other fields and try.

Roxie

Well now, if you were a Flyers fan, and you still held out hope that they'd make the playoffs, which team in the West Coast Division would YOU be rooting for?  Hmmm.

Go Stars!   8)

Yes it would be close, would be 1/2 hour north east of me , Magog is on the shores of the Memphremagog lake , its quite a large lake , some 30 miles long .

My boss is a jerk.

While the puck is dropping in Joe at 12:30 (my time) I will be out in lowlands dropping trees. Up until last night I was fully intending on taking the midday off to watch the game. Lord knows I want to see it. Bad. But while my wife and I were watching Axe Men last night I got sort of convicted.

Here those guys getting chainsaws stolen by jerks with no morals, and losing arms because they have immense pressure on them all the time to get the job done, and I am planning on taking off to watch the hockey game when I have people patiently waiting for back orders.

On top of that, my wife is working today, on a Saturday, giving life to peeps by filtering their blodd for them, and I am planning on sitting at home watching a hockey game. I don't think so.

I don't know if this is irony, alot of things are credited as irony that do not technically qualify, but a man in the Montreal area is one of my patient customers who's logs will be getting on the trailer today. He lives in, and was born and reared there, in the Mecca of hockey, and has the winningest hockey team in history right there and doesn't give a flip about hockey. But I will be missing the game to get him his wood. That's not irony. That's injustice.

So Roxie if you can watch the game, beginning in less than 3.5 hours, you have to cheer our (they are fully yours too for today!) Men in Green on double-hard because I will not even be near the radio in the truck to hear it. Maybe I will be lucky and get the trailer full in time to catch the 3rd period on the way back, but I doubt it. If it turns out to be one of those great games I will find a way to get a recording of it. If we get smeared then I will not regret my decision.

I wish I did not have my priorities so screwed up. Man. My boss is a jerk.

I'll quit whining now.  :'( :'( :'( :'(

Stay safe, TT.  If it ends up being one of the great games, we'll get you a recording of it somehow.

TexasTimbers

Silver lining . . .I haven't left yet. Been trying to get my trailer brakes and lights working. Chief, our teething puppy didn't want me to miss the game so he chewed the wiring harness beneath the truck to shreds. i did not notice it until I had no brakes pulling out. I've patched it together but it keeps blowing fuses.

At this point in the day the only thing that makes sense is to listen to the game while I work in the shop. Darnit. ;D

Silver linings.

Hey bird we were posting at the same time. I still won't see it but I am one of those who loves a good radio play by play. And we have two of the best in the business.

Thanks for the offer I do appreciate it. I'll be trying to fix the wiring and doing a little woodworking so it is not a lost cause. Thanks! :)

Okay.. I admit it.  It wasn't the dog.  I was passing through the area and your heartfelt tale of woe went out, I was a bit hungry, and well...  hey, those were some good wires.  And now you get to hear the game.  ;) :D

You know, if it were me, I'd move/borrow a small TV and put it in the shop...  ;)

Warbird

Hockey! Hockey! Hockey!
This is so awesome.  I hardly ever get to watch pro-hockey.  Both the stars and the wings are good!  This is amazing hockey.

PENALTY!!  Oh dude.  This guy got clocked!  Doh!  Wings got a bad call.  He touched the puck first!  Oh well... advantage Stars.  :(  Okay, enough posting, I gotta give this my undivided attention.

Warbird

GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLL!!!!
Wings just tied it up.  Power play goal.  ;D

I came in to the TV right after the Stars scored. I didn't get to see it and they haven't played a replay of it. Saw the danged Wings score right after tho9ugh.

Listening to most of it the first radio at first though it sounds like the Stars are unaware that they are just supposed to go through the motions.

Man those Wings are deadly. We worked out butts of to get that goal and they come right back to score with such ease. So good so far though. Detroit is outhitting and out shooting us but we are tied.

Hang in there boys! Those Wings are human and you beat them once, and you can do it again!!!!!

(Thanks for sabotaging my wiring Warbird).
