How do you extract the oil from cedar and what is it used for?
I hear it is valuable.

Any other uses?

Tom

I'll bet LW knows.   Where's LW? :-/

Mark M

It's just like door-knob oil except you put it on your cedar trees so the neighbor kids won't climb them. ;)

Kevin

We put peanut butter on door knobs, and oil the kids so they can't climb anything.

I can see this topic isn't going anywhere.   :D

Bro. Noble

Mark-------what a knucklehead  :o

Anyone with common sense knows that cedar oil is for squeeky cedar trees :D

Mark M

Ohhhhh :o

My cedar trees must have enough then cause they don't squeak. :)

Frank_Pender

Such oils are used for incenses, not nonsense. :D  They become adeatives for perumes and such.  It takes one ton of rose petals to make an ounce of ador.   The ador (oil) is then used in a diluted form to make perfumes.  The same principle is used in make of candy and gum, useing pepperment and spearment oils.  They are usaully estracted through the disterllery process.

Bro. Noble

Thanks for clearing that up,  Frank.

I'm gonna cancel my order now cause I've no use for insence but do go through several gallons of nonsense in a years time :D

Frank_Pender

Noble, I resemble that laste statement of yours. :D :D :D ;D
Frank Pender

Mark M

Me too Frank.

Noble did you know you get nonsense in 55 gallon drums? Thats the way I get mine :D

I don't have any time for incest either.

Bro. Noble

Well,  Mark,  I'll have to admit,  you sure seem to be familiar with the distribution of nonsense :D

L.W. has not re-appeared that I can remember since her visit with Noble. Anybody heard from her?
I can change my profile okay. No errors. If you can,t remove all the extra info in other fields and try.

Bro. Noble

What's that supposed to mean? ???  :D

If you remember she reported on her Red Cross experience (after returning home)  and was all interested in tornados.  She and a guy that works in a restuarant were creating whirlwinds on the grill with the right combination of heat water and wind.  Maybe she was too successful ::)

Seriously,  I hope she is OK.   She is a very nice and interesting lady and I miss her input.

Kevin

She just came to realize she was sane and didn't belong here.

Jeff

She'll be back. Its not unlike L to disapear for month or two at a time.

Aromatic cedar oil is also used to rejuvenate aromatic cedar chests.  Usually, just sanding aromatic cedar will bring back the smell but if it doesn't, you can wipe it down with the oil.

Cedar sawdust, cedar shavings or cedar chips are cooked in a big steel tank.  The steam and oil is boiled off. The gasses are run through cooling tubes and the oil and water is condensed out. It is easy to "burn" the oil by getting it too hot and it comes out dark. Sells for about 6 to 9 bucks a pint wholesale I believe. Giles and Kendall at Huntsville Al. , Murphy furniture at Jasper Al, Winston Bates near Hot Springs Ark. and several others in Texas make the oil. It takes about a million dollars to set up a good distilling operation which keeps everyone else out of the business.

This process gets about 1/2 of the oil out I am told.
If you want to know more, I have an article about all the chemicals that make up the aroma.
I am in the pink when sawing cedar.
