There is a little surface rust on it , what would be good to clean it up . Wife is not a good answer .  ;)  Been there and a thump was heard from far away .... :-\

I can't say I ever heard of that brand, but that's a fine looking saw! 8) 8)  If you're happy with it, I'm tickled to death!

I find a little wire brush on the end of a drill will knock out surface rust most quick.  Wipe it down good with a tack rag afterwards and apply a good coat of wax.

isawlogs,

Great looking saw. I always wanted one of those big cabinet type saws.  Guess you too.

That extended fence and table will be handy.

I am proud for you.. 8) 8)

If the table was at one time pollished smooth I would use sandpaper on a dual action sander. start with 120 gritts and work up to 320 or 400.  then polish it with a good nonsilicone wax. Shiney table tops are cool.   Make a styrofoam cover for it if you donot keep the shop heated . That will keep the moisture from condensing on your table surface.

Nice saw Marcel.   Looks great in the photo.

You might try one of those nylon sanding brushes or wheels chucked up in drill.  The nylon bristles will not scratch the surface like a wire brush will.   Spray some Rust Reaper or WD40 on it for a day before brushing.
Been there, done that.   Never got caught [/b]

Sure is nice to rip 2 inch and not have to wait on the saw .  :D

Interesting.  Grizzly's equipment is made in Taiwan as well.  I suspect they share some of the same suppliers.  Get us some pictures when she's all waxed up and pretty ;D

So few table saws aren't made in Taiwan. But non-the-less those are some nice saws. Now my question here is: now that you guys have these nice saws, what are we going to see you guys make? Or are ya going to be shy about it?  :-X :-\

May I suggest not using a power sander on the table right away?  You can go to more aggressive measures if needed, but you can remove more metal than you need to with a power sander.  You want to remove the rust only, if possible, and keep the table at least as flat as it is now.  The wire wheel is a good idea.  If that doesn't work, I'd suggest elbow grease with Scotchbrite pads, or putting a Scotchbrite pad on a sander.  They come in gray, green, and white, coarse to fine.  I'd try white first, with a little Coca-Cola, and go to the others as necessary.  There's also an abrasive/rubber stick called a Rust Eraser that works very well.  Just a suggestion.  It's a lot easier to take metal off than it is to put it back.

Makes sense. Nice saw, now I am jealous. Still dealing with my old direct drive craftsman, are you ready, 9" table saw. Like the idea of rippong through 2X stock and not having to wait on the saw, just has'nt happened yet. Congrats Marcel, you in the big leagues now.

Nice saw, I have lots of 'Craftex' products and find them great tools for the price.

They have stores in Ontario and the one I go to is in London, Ont. just off the 401. I always make it a point to stop in while passing through.  They have a line of metal cutting tools also.

Lets see what you make with it!

Nice find, Marcel!  I recently bought a 10" 1.5 HP saw.  The saws in the class of yours were out of my price range.  As Robert said, now post some pics of what you make with it! ;)

Nice haul Marcel. Looks like a dandy!
The oil is all in Texas, but the dipsticks are in D.C.

Brad_bb

I was going to suggest Scotchbright bads and a little mineral oil.  I always have the maroon ones around from bodywork/paint work, they are equivalent to about 400 grit.
Anything someone can design, I can sure figure out how to fix!
If I say it\\\\\\\'s going to take so long, multiply that by at least 3!

SwampDonkey

I've done the same or used steel wool, only I use WD-40 as I have several cans on the shelves and lots of rags to wipe it off with. When I'm done for the winter I usually spray a coating on the surfaces and keeps the rust away in the damp season.
