new Mack to me

Morning all.

We mainly shift small batches of logs, tree service stuff plus a small amount of plantation. We were using the Isuzu for everything, and making it do more than it was designed for.The volumes and log sizes are going up and we scored a regular job for 25t loads, so we bit the bullet. We have kept the red one as it runs on an oily rag and gets into the tight spaces.

and now we can do it this way

1990 Mack R688, just before they went to Electronic engines and the CH cab. 400hp with the Mack 12sp. The trailer can take two 6m bays, with just over 3tons of lift and 7.5m of reach on the loader.

Its a big step up.

I brought it in Queensland on Wednesday and spent two days bringing it back, just shy of a 2000km trip.

yes a brute, a little on the basic side, but can be fixed with a range of hammers. Road warrior it is, E7 motor with airstart, straight out of Mad Max.

Chris, I have to have the Grocon induction/inspection this week for Rods job. Took it into Marks on the way thru on Friday arvo. Only juuustt fits into his yard without removing awnings and guttering off the warehouse. Those bolsters are 4.2m!

Gary, yep we can go gross combined 85t if you have the right trailer combo. Without the loader we would be nudging 28t, or 42.5gross or I can upgrade the rego for a nominal fee and they will let me go 27.5/45t gross.

ScottAR, I had not thought of that! Good fallback security. The previous owner was a fairly organised individual and passed on the necessary equipment for all airstart owners, a length of airline with the correct fittings to refill the start tank, all set up to pull from a second trucks trailer supply. Oh and a pen to manualy activate the airstart when the battery is flat.

Nice truck!! I had an old white/volvo that was a air start, good truck but if you didn't use it in 4-5 days the air would leak off. Believe me it takes a long time to get enough air from a little 12 volt compressor :D

Nice truck I like macks I had an old B61 with a duplex tranny in it I ran that thing for 10 yrs and as far as I know she's still rolling . I'm looking for a Co mack with a single screw and a tag over here in the states now

ya know there are not too many movies i can watch more than once, but road warriors also known as mad max 2............. I can click on the middle and get stuck there. I think that one movie made Mel a star. Of course it is good ifin ya knows they killed his wife and kid and ruined his leg in the first one

any way good luck with the mack it looks like a brute and we needs the brutes to do what we do mate :D

why am I always amazed when a thread takes such a left turn. Now a discussion on cult movies of the eighties, and yes there is something mysterious about the air start. Maybe it just beacuse it is different.
