Stihl 028wb

Okay, so a guy gives me this saw because he can't make it run.  I rebuild the carb (full of saw dust) clean it up and put fresh fuel in it.  2bd pull she starts right up.  Can someone give me the 007 IPL address for this machine?  And what the heck does the wb mean?

The "WB" stands for "Wood Boss"

The 028 series is one fo the best saws that Stihl ever made.

You sure got that right. I have one that's 15 years old, pulls a full chiesel chain on a 20 inch bar. Only problem I ever had was I tried using outboard motor oil in the fuel mix. cost me a jug and piston.

I had an 028 super I fiddled with last winter that belonged to one of the trimmers which was used as a ground saw .

I can't remember exactly what I did to it other than rob parts from varoius saws to get it going .Seemed like a pretty nice running saw considering the size .Reminded me of an 038 in design .

Would you believe some rotten so and so stole that thing . >:(

I bought a 028wb bar saw the year they came out early 80's, i think.
a few motor mounts, and a lot of running. I bought a 029 in march 2009
hope it's 1/2 as good as the 028 that is still a cutting. Check picture

No your 029 will not be 1/2 as good as your 028.
Be very careful when tightening the bar nuts because one of the studs is screwed into plastic.
Don't ask me how I found out.
It is too painful to think of all the trouble I went thru to 1/2 way fix it.

Ahhhh yes, the 028, my daddy had two of them when I was a kid and it's mostly what I grew up running. Later when I started loggin a neighbour of mine said if I wanted a saw I could go fetch it from out in the woods where he had thrown it, well fetch it I did and lo and behold if it wasn't a 028 Super, bit of tinkerin and she was good to go, run a 24 inch bar with full skip on it and use it for light duty, runs like new to this day...

wont be half the saw a 028 is i used a 028 for years and bought a 029 and the oiler
gave me so much trouble i finally had to get rid of it .

As a matter of fact I ran an 028WB cutting down out of a pile prior to splitting  today . About an hour ago actually . It did okay but it surely isn't the power level I'm used to running .

The other saw I used today was a 281 Husky  but to elaborate much on it would be slightly off the topic of this thread .

I have been a member of the forum for a few days now, Just tonite got to the chainsaw section. I have had a lot of stihl saws and the 028's are my favorite. Easy saw to work on. I have 3 running and 2 parts. I had an 039, sold it. stripped bar studs . which stihl sells oversize. then clutch came apart.  028's are reliable IMO. thanks
