He has a Stabil bottle. He fills it with his Acetone/Xylenol mix. He squeezes about 2 oz in the measuring chamber and pours it in his tank prior to fill up.

Conversation about fuel additive is extremely interesting, however, the question was about oil.
For last 4 years I running all my toys on Shell Rotella Synthetic  SAE5W-40. Here is list:
International 4300 – 2 years on synthetic, 20,000 miles, year around
International 2674 – 3 years on synthetic, 10,000 miles – plow truck runs in winter only,
International 4700 – 1 year on synthetic,  10,000 miles, year around
GMC T6500 – 4 years on synthetic, 70,000 miles, year around
Kubota B7800 – 3 years on synthetic, 1500 hours, year around
Vermeer BC1800 with JD Tier II (115HP) – 3 years on synthetic, 800 hours.

No leaks, engine runs much quieter, in winter much easier to start. Changing oil every 12,000-14,000 miles or 500 hours.  Got advise from very good mechanic. Did research about formula of this oil. Had conversation with manufactures (IHC, CAT, Kubota, JD) engineers before switching. Tried on one and when moved for others. One advise: do not switch until engine is totally broke-in: 20,000 miles trucks, 500 hours machinery.

Cheapest supplier is AutoZone - $20.00 per gallon. Looks like invasion when I restocking oil.

About additives to fuel: My international DT466 fuel injector was bad. One guy from "Fuel Pumps and Injectors" told me to add 2-cycle engine oil to diesel fuel. It worked! Don't know for how long.
Thanks for reading.

Adding that oil to your fuel makes a nice lubricant for the injectors. That ULSD fuel is tough on injectors. Spoke to a few diesel mechanics who swear by it. They are seeing more injector failures in the past few years. The oil companies claim they add a lubricant to the ULSD fuel, but I don't trust em. I add it myself. One mechanic told me he's even seeing alot of injector problems in gas engines. He suspects Ethanol as the culprit. Alcohol is dry and does'nt disperse well throughout the fuel. I add synthetic oil to my gas in my pickup. About 1 oz to 10 gal.

Toolman, is that ratio also recommended for diesel? I'm shopping around for a truck right now, and am really interested in a diesel (going to take another look at it tomorrow morning).  This lubricity issue with diesel fuel has been bugging me  :-\

stupid question= is xylene and xylenol the same thing?

Toolman

ohsoloco,

yea. I add the same to my diesel and gas. I've had alot of good diesel mechanics tell me the same thing. Use synthetic 5-30 . It passes through fuel filter much easier.

Ely,

Hope I have this is right order. Xylene is a particular type of hydro carbon. There are numerous types in this category. Xylenol is a combination of these mixed into one formula. Either one is good. I use Xylenol.
