I'm looking at a used MS360 and have a concern. I was able to try it out tonight and after a couple of minutes of use, there was quite a bit of smoke coming out of the muffler. My question is could that be a sign of bigger problems or could it just be because of some oil that ended up where it shouldn't have during transportation?

Thanks in advance,
Ryan

Either too much cheap mix oil in the fuel, or else bar lube was leaking onto the muffler. Just a couple wild guesses though.  8)

I was going to dump the fuel and let it sit until tomorrow and see what happens with some new fuel. Just curious if there was more I should check on.

I was able to get a hold of the seller. Apparently he had painted the muffler...? so it should burn off in a 1/4 of a tank or so. Interesting.  On a side note, would $275 be a fair price for this? It has a 20" bar and a new chain. I apologize ahead of time for the next statement because I'm not sure what it means but the seller said that the diaphragm felt a little dry so he ordered a replacement kit as well. Also, are parts still readily available for the MS360 Pro.

Looks like a wrecked rebuild to me. The gas tank and oil tank have different style caps, indicating that they did not originally come from the same saw. But the 360 is a good midsize saw and assuming the guy who built it did a good job then it should serve you well. One of my favorite saws is a Husky 372 Frankensaw built from two wrecks.

What you seem to have there is the engine of a 036 and the tank of the MS360.
If that engine is in sound condition, that is a nice saw.

Um, recoil looks like a MS360???

P.S. don't use my mint 028 super much anymore, as my 036s are as light and 10cc bigger.  For some reason, that 028 starts on 1-2 pulls if it sits for a year but the 036s are cold blooded, 9-10 pull if they sits.

But I still love that 028S.........just keeps going and going.......
