Finally decided to register. I've been following this site for quite a few years and it is by far the most imformative that I have come across. My question is about the Dolmar 7900. A dealer in my area said that it comes with a cat muffler and I was wondering if this was true?

Cut4fun

I have never seen a cat muffler on a 7900.

I'm going to another dealer in a few days. It's time for me to start looking for a new saw, Husky 262 is getting up there in years.Husky dealer around here still have some 372 left but they run at least $100.00 more.

Dolmar does not have a strato engine that I am aware of, and so far they have added CATs to the mufflers in the smaller saws like the PS420 and 5105 (5100s replacement), not unlike the CAT in Husky's newer 346xp. KATs are also listed in a lot of Stihl saw parts lists, though I have never seen one on a Stihl saw.

The CAT in the muffler can be neutered though. Or alternative pre-CAT saw mufflers ordered from dealers.
Stihls: 440R, 361, 360, 310, 260, 211, 020T. Husky: 372xt.
I ship Stihl saws down under: message me for details.

Thanks windthrown. I guess that was the answer I was looking for - that if they did have a cat muffler I could do something about it. I work at a chemical plant that went through a rebuild and they used 2 7900's with carbide chains to cut up a 3 foot by 18 in. bus bar that was made out of blocks of aluminum. They were running these saws wide open for up to 10 minutes. I'm sure this was not very healthy for the saws but they seemed to still be running strong when they were done.
