Belsaw 24 not cutting stright?

My belsaw 24 is not cutting even (1 1/2" start and 2" at the end of 14'. Lead adjusted to about 1/8". maybe I'am feeding too fast or too slow??? Saw Blade hamered to 550 or 600. I don't know. Peder

Peder,

Check your head blocks and make sure they are at equal distances from the front of the saw. With the sawmill shut down push the carriage by hand and measure the distance of each head block to a tooth on the saw. Each one shoud be the same distance. If not they can be adjusted pretty easily.

Are all of your boards coming out wedge shaped or just the dog board?

How close are the saw saw guides to blade ?? On mine the Dog board never comes out real neet. What I had to do also was add about 3/16 shim to Knee(headblock) because sproket on back one is worn and if you jump it one tooth that is too much and shaft is tackwelded so no adjustment there. I have not done it yet but I was warned about turning log against knee beings you can knock it a tooth out of wack easily

Peder, though to come up with a cause we need more information.What Tripp was getting at is if all the boards come off a cant normal but the last dog board is tapered thats a sign the headblocks are not the same distance from the saw.If it happens on ocasion then mayby its tension in the log.If it happens every time could be a lead problem, play in the headblocks,uneven base foundation,lack of tension to hold setworks where set.Too much flexing of the carriage will cause the cant to loosen and move around.Side to side play in the carriage can be a factor.Frank C.

On some Belsaws anyway, I recollect the boltholes holding the vertical dogging posts are elongated allowing some adjustment to get all posts same distance from saw.Also, after positioning log I found it really helped to push/pry with a peavey on the middle of log, to ensure there is equal pressure on all dog posts. Otherwise you can easily have a 1/4" error due to "backlash"in the cog to carriage "gearing". You also want minimal play in carriage posts back to front. You can adjust this-its the little thingy that goes under the carriage at each post location.
