Navigating the forum

I know that many of the members don't read all of the topics.  It may come as a surprise, but many members read and respond to almost everything.

If you only read sawmills or chainsaws, you are doing yourself, as well as other members a disservice.  Some of the posts in less popular topics are asking for help that you might be able to provide.

There is an easy way to Navigate the forum, beyond going to your favorite topic.  It is to use the links at the top of the page that will list those threads that you haven't read, or those threads you wrote that have been answered by others.

It's pretty simple, only requires one click and remains updated from visit to visit. 

We have one member that is looking for help getting his motorcycle from Utah to Maine.  With the pig roast in the forefront, it looks like someone might be able to help.

There is a thread about forest certification, Forest Education, that should interest everyone who owns land or a sawmill business, not to mention loggers and foresters.

So, If you want an easy way to see what is going on, use these two links.

This is what i've always done. I find it a bit easier than navigating by section. I do try to read all my unread posts, but don't always have something to contribute.

That's great!   If you click on the "new" button, it will take you to the post that you haven't read, rather than the beginning of the thread.

I've been out of town, and didn't have a good way to post on the forum, so have just been reading.  That is a very good way to navigate the forum, and I use it quite often, but it should be mentioned that it can have some possible undesirable side effects.  Depending on your browser, or version of browser, and how it handles cookies and sessions, there is a possibility that when you close your browser session after using the links, it will remove everything under Show my unread posts, and only list the things that are posted after the browser was closed. So, anything you did not look at the first time may be gone from the list.  If I use my firefox browser on my blackberry like that, I will lose everything I dont read. If I dont go back and go board by board, there will be things I will completely missed (and I have).

In short, Show my unread posts  or Show new replies to my posts are good tools to use, but it you use them solely to navigate the forum, odds are you will start missing things that way as well.  Been there. Done that.  

Another good way to cruise the forum is to use the most recent posts link that appears down in the forum stats. It will give you all the posts from all the boards.

Look at the line just above the "Home, Help, Search, etc." buttons at the top.  Clicking on each half of that line will take you to those locations.
