 :D :D :D

So there they were, my father, his next older brother, and his oldest brother looking up at the limb they needed to cut down.  The older brother decides he needs to teach the young ones how to cut a limb off a tree.  So sure enough, he grabs the bow saw, starts climbing the tree, reaches his destination of the 'soon to be killed' offending branch.
Now picture a young teenager shimmying out on the branch, taking a quick pause, looking down at his two youngest brothers, and showing them how to cut a limb off the tree.  The thing is, my father is looking up at him sitting on this branch (as they estimated to be about 15' high) and thinking to himself, "it sure looks like he is on the wrong side of that saw?"  So sure enough, the oldest brother starts cutting the limb....yup, on the wrong side!  Just as he gets about halfway through the limb it starts coming down, not only it but obviously the branch killer as well!

He ended up with a broken hand and has never cut a branch down again.  Contrary to what this story makes you think, he actually a brilliant man and college professor.  However he isn't too interested in cutting trees down!   :D

It's funny how different people from the same family can be.  I hadn't seen that uncle in about 20 yrs until last month.  We went to his son's (my cousin's) wedding which was incredable down in NC.  I asked him about that story because I always thought it was made up because I just couldn't believe someone would do that.....Nope, not made up, he told it just like my dad told it to me!  Unbelievable.

On the bright side of things, I did 'reunite' with my cousin who I hadn't seen in the same amount of time, and he is now living in Boston on a full scholarship to Harvard going for his master's in something I can't pernounce, let alone spell.  He speaks Mandarin and Chinese fluently, it's incredible, I could never do that.
Like I said, it's funny how two people from the same family can be so different, he certainly got the brains.  I guess I'll keep the wood's smarts  ;)

Quotehe actually a brilliant man and college professor.

It's been my experience that these two qualities prohibit some from functioning in the real world. ???
I do what the little voices in my wife's head tell me to do.

This story reminds me of the redneck saying... "Hold my beer and watch this."   :D  :D  :D

The event was not one I witnessed, but when I worked at a City of Portland municipal course back in the 1980s, two other greenskeepers told me of a crew member doing the same.

Knowing who they were referring to, I trust that they were telling the truth.

Sitting on the side of the limb away from the trunk. Only in this case, using a chainsaw.

They didn't mention whether there were any bruises or injuries.
