Hey guys I'm looking into buying a muskeg off of a gentleman up the road from my house but I know very little about the machine. Here's what I have been told: It's a 1962-3 that was used for chipping at a ski resort at the beginning of each season then was parked for the rest of the year. The chipper is powered by a 80hp Deutz diesel engine and has less then 100 hrs on it. Now from the research I've done on ebay these engines are going for $2000.00 alone. The engine is a 6 cylinder gas Chrysler. The beg dumps and has a winch. The guy wants $6500 but I'm thinking more in terms of $5000.00. I really don't know what its worth and I don't know anything about it. It was running when parked about 5 years ago and he says it would fire right up. It also comes with a small tracked trailer that I assume I would just use for boggies. I'll try to post some pictures. If you could let me know what you think because I'm in the dark right now and really would like any advice I could get. Thanks!! -Travis

Welcome to the forum Travis!

I know less than zero about those things, BUT our member sprucebunny will probably be along shortly to talk about it! I think she has some knowledge of them.

As Ty pointed out Sprucebunny is our expert on Bombi's. There are also a few other owners of I believe J-5's and SW-48's. If you do a little searching you might find some interesting reading about them here.

Thanks, guys  :)

If it's not very rusty and has the large axles and useable rubber on the tracks and tires, I think it's worth about what he's asking. Tires and track rubber can add up fast at about $125 a tire ( 16 tires) and $2000 for the rubber belting on one side. Count on around $45 for each wheel bearing/seal set. Parts are avaiable for the Chrysler engine and it's a low RPM animal  ;D

A complete running and rolling machine of that vintage can be had for prices starting at $5000 if you are willing to travel to the far reaches of Canada. A more recent machine (1970s-'80s) will set you back between $8000-10,000 at least and that's without all the extra stuff you are getting.

years ago i went to the bombadier musuem in valcort quebec quite a place. had one with a saw head on it. i think when they split the co. up trains and planes stayed with bom. sleds outboards to brp the tracked machines were sold to camoplast.
