I used my new 395xp today.  Just breaking it in on some firewood and a couple of 24" Ash.

Every time I fueled(took the cap off) there was a loud suction noise.  Like a plugged vent.  Or is this some kind of "emissions control" thing?

I have two 394's and never had that happen.?

I have a 395xp and its never made any noise when taking off the filler cap.

You've got me- I sure could be emmisions related. I had a Honda engine that the cap wouldn't vent, new emissions style. The thing kept dying, we couldn'd figure out what was wrong with that stupid thing. We finally put an old cap on it, problem solved. Does your saw run OK? If it does, I wouldn't worry about it.

I've got a small cheap homelite that has been a good saw for most of its 16 years. I would always have to tinker with the carb with changing weather, more than my other saws. Whenever I would pull the fuel cap, it would burp air out. Late last summer, I decided to check out the tank vent. The vent was a small round sintered bronze plug pressed into the plastic. After digging that out, I found a small rubber valve that would only allow air to enter the tank but not blow out. That made sense why it would burp out more on a hot day. Now the tank vents good and it runs great (for a cheap little saw).
Hang in there body...just a little further to go.
