I finally got around to putting the bb kit in my 460.  I also added a new high flowing muffler and added a few more small holes in it.  It wont cut any faster than it did, but it has a ton more power and sounds awesome.  You all were right it doesnt cut better :(  But i am happy with it and now we have a saw to keep the 25 inch bar on full time.  I had 152 bucks in the whole deal.

How can it have a ton more power but not cut any faster, are you talking about RPM's. With a ton more power take the rakers on the chain down a little ,it will cut faster.   Steve

Thanks for the tip steve. I filed the chain in about the same manner I would on a regular 460.  What I meant by power is i could really pry on the bar and not stop the chain nearly as fast as my other saws which are all 460s. We lined up a brand new 46 and the bb saw and they cut nearly identical as each other.  I will try to take the drags down a bit for a little bigger bite and see what that does.

correct me if i'm off track here, but with a proper chain sharpening prying on anything will just stop the chain.   If you can pry on it you could take the rakers down a touch, or else revise your plate angles some.

Right, with a good sharp chain very little pressure and it should work the engine and the saw with most power will cut the fastest.  With a dull chain or the rakers too high it will take a lot of pressure and the saw that revs the fastest will cut the fastest.  Steve

Alright I took it back out after tuning the carb a bit more. After about 3 tanks of fuel it was idling very fast, but its good now.

I took the drags down another 2 licks with a flat file and it really works the saw a bit but it cuts like a dream.  I mean it really throws the chips out the back.  I love it.  Thanks for all the advice.

.....You all were right it doesnt cut better

Try it with an eight teeth rim instead of the current standard seven teeth one.

You sure can try a 8 tooth rim but I think it will cut faster in bigger wood with a 7 tooth with a good sharp chain and the rakers the right hieght. Steve

I believe I have access to a 9 tooth sprocket and 16 inch bar.  Would that benefit the saw in cutting 9x9 oak beams?  I am trying to build a quick cutting stock type saw for our local chainsaw competition

It would best best to try 7,8, and 9 tooth before ther comp, i'd guess it would be real close between 7 and 8 in a 9" square oak. If it was softwood the 9 might work.  Steve
