LT28 broken springs...Again!

Am I the only LT28 owner with this spring breaking problem?  I'm now on my 6th spring after just over a year of use. 

Woodmizer has sent me new springs in a timely manner (4 more arrived in the mail today) but I would much rather that they fix the problem.  If you are also having this problem...let Woodmizer know so that they feel a need to deal with the problem.  I've bent a new loop on a broken spring but that fails again after a short time in use.  This is a heat treatment problem... pure and simple.

It's really hard to run the saw without that spring because it causes the saw to "jump out of gear" and you have to hold the blade engagement handle down while you saw.

there isnt anything more aggravating than having the same trouble over and over again on a new machine. hang in there. you will eventually get it ironed out.  pc

I know that the guys down in customer service are working on it, but are scratching their heads a bit, trying to figure out why it seems like an isolated incident.  If anyone else is having this problem, let us know!  We'd really like to get to the bottom of this and get it fixed.

i have had my 28 goin on 2 yrs now and so far no broken springs,really no trouble at all but it still has less than a hundred hours on it .i hope u can figure out the problem soon,please keep us posted if u find the problem

Been watching this thread regularly. I don't have an lt28, but there's something similiar that  happens on my lt40 that might shed a little light on the problem. I added a garage door opener spring to help the head lift mechanism. At a certain engine rpm and head position, it breaks into a violent oscillation, bad enough to jump off the hooks on one end. It's a mechanical resonance problem, triggered by engine and blade vibrations at just the right frequency. You might try tweaking the governor setting just a tad up or down to change the vibration frequency. Know this sounds weird, but this problem is just a bit out of the ordinary.

"Q" run the mill slowly and watch that spring function theirs something causing that breakage mayby something outher than poor heat treat. Take the spring to a real hardware store and get a replacement to try.You may want to try a shorter spring and "S" hook for a pivot point I think something is binding. Frank C.

Shot in the dark here but maybe something is off on your cable causing your spring to break. :-\. Hard to tell but I would think they would send you a new cable to try. Also are you leving the spring loose on the bolt or tighting it down?


This coming from a guy who goes through 3-4 throttle cables a year on mine. Why I'm not sure but I do believe it has something to do with me.

I have owned my LT25 for 10 years and that spring has broken a couple of times on my mill.  I just do the country fix and wire the spring back to the hook.  I know this is not much help for you.  I tend to agree with a previous poster that this is a metal fatique/harmonic failure that could be solved with a shock absorbing bushing or strap installed between the hook and the spring. My failure rate is just not enough for me to take any action on this problem. Good luck and let us know what  your final solution is.
