i've seen it before but it's well worth watching again.  it's funny, i consider myself to be a hard working guy but compared to those guys i'm an absolute baby.  there's just something about watchin a guy tie a rope around his waist climb 200' up a tree and cut off the top 100' with an axe that'll humble ya.   :D  oh, he also probably made like 10 cents that day.  very humbling to say the least...

Two things stand out for me.  The surveyor in the beginning (matches the last three letters of my login)
And I want a pair of trousers like the fellow has at 1min 58 sec in the movie!!

Great stuff Lance T

An aweson example of what it took to build our nation. Also a good reason for all of us to document our logging adventures and some of the other can do things that we do everyday. Someone some day is going to look at this and say much the same we are saying now.

I have taken a camera with me all my life and have been able to keep a record of what we as a family have accomplished so for in our life time.

Stay safe guys.

Great video!

One of the first things I noticed after the cutter got up the tree and started chopping the top off was "how close to the rope that axe was coming"! smiley_sweat_drop

Very interesting video and i enjoyed it immensely.
Boy did those guys work like dogs. And lived to be maybe 75 if lucky.
However the preservationists have a point.
A 2000 year old tree felled to make houses  that may last 200 years.
Seems like a waste.
I am a forester who is retired now but made my living marketing hardwoods that were maybe 150 to 200 years old.
This video did put, for me, a new perspective on the Redwoods.

Excellent Film!!  That was 1940's......imagine what logging was like another 50 yrs before.
Love to see how things were done in the past, still stuff that can be learned from that era.

.

I agree with you on this.  And folks like us are still "building" a nation through inovation, technology, and just good common sense.  Makes me want to get a video camera too.

Thanks for the film!
