As everyone else has stated, glad to hear it was the mill that was toast, a lot easier to replace machinery than body parts.  Sorry to hear about it and hope a replacement is on the way.

RedLeg

I echo everyones' concerns... things can be replaced.   I hope the insurance process is a speedy one and may be you can get enough with damages to do an upgrade.

Our insurance will not cover it...liability, yes..comp/collision, no. We will not know the ruling on whose fault it is for three days or so.

I am pretty sire it will be ruled my fault.

There is absolutely no hope if me being able to afford a replacement anytime soon. I feel like somewhere between having lost a favorite dog and a child.

I guess once we get the final verdict about the other guy's insurance, if nothing else, I will tear it apart and see what I can do with it. It isn'n like I cannot weld.

There is not much that is built that can't be repaired or straightened, if you find out insurance will not cover it, repair it and keep on sawing. If you know any old time auto body repair people there knowledge of straightening and shrinking steel would be a big help. Glad you are ok.

eastberkshirecustoms

That is some sad news :(. What hit you? Must have done some real damage to the other guy!
Just curious, no trailer lights or 'slow moving' signs are required in your area?

I feel for you zopi, kind of a sinking feeling in the pit of your gut.  I hope you can get things turned around and going! :(

Sorry about the accident.  The fact that you can tell us about it means that everything will be OK.

If a man built it, a man can fix it. ;)

It sure is a terrible feeling when something like this happens, but don't despair yet.  Like the others said, even if the insurance company won't pay you can still use all the pieces and parts that aren't wrecked to build a new one.  Plenty of guys are building their own mills and you already have the benefit of knowing what a well designed one looks like.

Magicman

I am so sorry about your loss zopi.  It is a relief to know that you were not injured, but loosing your sawmill is a tragedy.

Since it looks like some of my sawing jobs are further away, I just started a thread in the Forestry and Logging board inquiring about the blinking lights that I am now seeing on long logs.  LINK  My thoughts are that that little blinker could be used as an additional safety feature on my sawmill when traveling.

I have found a couple of sources for the blinkers Blinker and had planned to share that information when I get mine.  I ordered amber and will stick it in the center of the triangle.

As a note:  I went to our local Highway Patrol office and got their opinion on the triangle before installing it and their response was favorable.
