This morning after the fog burnt off I headed out to our woods on my ATV with a trailer and a maul to bust up some of the wood I cut yesterday. After working up a slight sweat I paused to take a water break by the ATV and a Whitetail buck came past chasing a doe. I sat on the ATV and enjoyed watching the chase and they paid no attention to me as they went back and forth about 50 yards away. This was all whithin sight of my deer stand but season is still 2 weeks away. Nice morning and I took a longer than planed break.

When we are visiting our camper and land I have similar moments.  Weather gathering water or riding on the trails you just have to pause and enjoy the blessing.  We are surrounded with beauty!

I'm blessed to be living in the woods also.  I stop at the back door most mornings to watch the whitetails frolick out back.  Sometimes have to chase them out of the driveway on infrequent trips away from home.

I live on a 60-acre parcel of mixed hard and softwoods.  The entrance is on a paved circle, somewhat like a subdivision.  I am the only one with any amount of acreage.  My place is 350 feet off the road, but I can still clearly hear my nearest and farthest neighbors when they get to carrying on!

Still, most of the time they are quiet and if I need to get away from sounds of people, I can go to the portion of my property that is behind a hill and all I hear is nature!  It definitely is a blessing to be able to live among the trees!

It is real quiet here.  Real quiet.

I couldn't agree more, grweldon.  I was born and raised in spitting distance to Chicago, and about 7 years ago purchased a fixer-upper on 9 1/2 acres in the foothills of Mt Rainier.  Just last week I was talking with a friend and complaining about my new neighbors who just finished building on my north fence.  I used to be able to get away from all sights/sounds of perople in my back half . . . not anymore . . . I need a bigger place . . .I need to work more . . .*DanG (sigh).

I've been to Perry!  Outside of the city you are right.... it CAN be quiet!  I lived in Columbus for 14 years in a subdivision with houses 12' from me on the sides and 50' in the back.  I knew and liked all my neighbors, but I felt cooped up and wanted to move to the country for years.  I can't SEE any of my neighbors, and I LIKE that!  If I need something outdoors and I happen to be butt-naked when I remember, It's nice to not have to worry about getting dressed to fetch it!

Kinda sorta on the same track......we're currently wintering in our RV outside of Colorado Springs. Every morning anywhere from 6 to 10 or more mule deer wander through the campground. Some are tame enough to eat from my hand. There are also about two dozen wild turkeys that make a daily pilgrimage through here as well as a couple of foxes. We even saw a wolf last week.
Very quiet and peaceful this time of year, with only a handful of full-timers like ourselves in an area with about 60 sites in all.
This was the view out our rear windows last week:

This is the view from the top of the mountain beside us. My dog and I hike up here at least twice a week:

Gary, I understand your "longer than planned break".  Saturday was our opening day of deer season.  I went not really caring whether I saw deer or not.  I just walked, sat, walked some more, and just enjoyed being there.  I like to go ahead a take a couple of doe deer during the first of the season, and even though I had a couple of opportunities, I just said, nope, not today.  I watched one doe stand up on her hind legs for a while.  There was no apparent reason, I guess just because she could.  She later walked within 10 feet of me.

A longer than planned break is good.   :)

Beautiful scenary there.  Do you have issues with your freshwater pipes?

We love to get away from Charlotte and head to the mountains of SW Va to enjoy the peace and quiet. Really amazing the stars that are visible away from cities!

samandothers - not so far. Our 5'er is meant for full-timers and winter camping. Plus, I put 2" foam sheets around the perimeter to keep the wind off the bottom. I have my water supply hose wrapped in foam insulation, with an electric heating strip next to the hose.
Last month, propane ran us $65.00 and electricity was $47.00 and that was with two snowfalls and several days below freezing. We'll see how we do in the winter months though!
You're right about the stars! I usually spend a few minutes just marveling at them, every night when I walk the dog for the last time. It sure does melt your cares away.

While you may have seen a coyote, it is highly unlikely that you saw a wolf. There are not any wolves known to be living in the wild in Colorado.

Misfit

Ok, I stand corrected. That was one big coyote.

Misfit, what brand 5th wheel do you have? We travel some in a HitchHiker but probably won't go full time, just can't give up my old tractors and such.

gspren - we have a 2008 Cameo F34CK3, which was manufactured by Carriage until they went out of business last year. Another company bought most of their equipment, moulds etc. and is making the same floorplans under their name. I can get it for you if you're interested.
