Danny, you do remember this overgrown Pecan tree that had been down for several years.

They chopped a way for me to get the sawmill to it.

I slabbed it up.

And it became benches.  Scary stuff for sure.   :o

Lost, the scenery alone is worth the time, wow!  Plus all your dust and slabs are 'cleaned up' with the incoming tide. ;)

t welsh..
Everyone likes to protect their market, were all in it together, all learned from someone . Only way to be top in your game is to be selling something that no one else has.
Sam seems to be an upstanding guy!
I did send a message to sam, told him what im up to with a big slabber project,  19hp with tandem pump flowing 14.7 gal each ect. 5 foot dia log ect, told him bout my other slabber I built ect,  asked what he powered his with .
To summarize, 40hp diesel, all hydro drive and feed. And can do a 9' diameter.
Hopefully someone combing the web reads this, and sends a monster log his way.

shelbycharger400, Your right about a niche market. I live within 20 minutes of Talerico and Hearnes, and regularly sell logs to Hearnes. Both are stand up business owners. And both use there large slabbers for themselves. They will do a customers log at special request with very high cost per hour rates. Why! Because they are the only ones around that can do that type of sawing! Have the equipment on hand to handle the weight of these logs and the facilities to accommodate large trucks, ect. My hat is off to them, they have worked hard to get where they are at. Tim

The lumber nicely stacked before going to the kiln.

The lumber was used as wall paneling inside of their home.

"I like to break down some of the big logs on the Mighty Mite with the best side down, then over to the bandmill to slice up some wide edge grain. Bandmills really shine here.

This log made some of the finest straight grain lumber you'll see. The log story is over but the raised panel exterior doors, counter tops and other projects that will come from this will last a lifetime. Had fun doing this, hope to hear about some of your log stories."  Jim

I thought this was deserving of inclusion in this tread ::)
