Hi all,

(My apologies if this has been posted previously... I can't keep up with all the posts anymore.)

Adding on to the Osage Orange thread, and the whole process of converting standing trees to usable timbers for structural frames, I thought I'd mention a workshop on this exact subject from the TF Guild:

Trees to Timber
"Tree Identification, Woodlot Management, Harvesting Timber,
Grading, Hewing and Milling" Aug 9 - 13

http://www.tfguild.org/workshops/convertingtrees.html

Taught by Jack Sobon himself, this sounds very educational. Personally, I think I could learn a ton from this workshop, but as a part time/hobbyist, the workshop and the travel expense has prevented me thus far. Maybe, just maybe it will work out this year - although I understand the course filled up quickly last year ;-(

Hey Jim, an ol' portable miller like you would have no use for this course, but the rest of us amaters might. Do you happen to know anyone who went to this last year?

Something to think about. Cheers,
Greg

Greg:

I'm not sure if I ever heard of anyone that I knew took the course last year.
But I believe I do know someone who will be taking it this year. I'll be talking with him on Saturday and if he is going, I'll ask him for a report when he gets back.

Cool !

When you signed up, did they indicate how full the course was?

Looks like it is right in your backyard. Good for you.
