Wow, you could drive a herd of elephants thru that opening (if you had any elephants, but I don't think that they are native to Mississippi.  I think that you will have to go to Texas to find some to test it out).

It is my understanding that elephants can not exist in a Sweetgum environment.  That means that I am safe, because I noticed a Sweetgum tree yesterday.

We were able to spend a couple of more days working on the Addition.

The first order of business was the A/C duct.  Since there will be a new central A/C-heating unit located in the Addition "mud room", duct had to be run which would not only service the Addition, but would also tie into the existing duct work.  I had purposefully left an overhead access to the existing duct which would also serve to house the registers for the Addition.

Two 8" ducts servicing the existing Cabin as well as the Addition.

And then have to drop below ceiling level to enter the mud room.

A 4' closet will be on the right side of the room.  The ceiling will be 8' on the left and then step down to 7' to accommodate the overhead duct.

We were also able to make good progress applying the "Pickling Stain" (white wash) on most of the walls.  This shows the Pickled wall on the left compared with the unfinished wall on the right.

Flooring should be next.

Glenn,

I heard a rumor that he might need a pecan table for the addition  :)

You're right, MM. We have lots of Sweetgums here in East Texas, too, and no elephants. I think the Sweet Gum Balls are too hard on their feet.   :D

I was able to spend a few hours today on the AC/Auxiliary Heat return air chamber.

The first order of business was determining where the return air vent would be.

And then cutting the 20"X20" opening for the grill and return air filter.  Next was building the platform that will become the bottom of the return air chamber.  I should be able to complete the return air chamber and mount the air handler on the next trip.  Another small step.   :)

Well really I have a fine mess.  After the last wall gets stained, flooring will be next, so everything gets cleaned up.

I am starting to get excited because I am finally able to visualize all of the steps until completion.   smiley_thumbsup

After this storm last night, we postponed sawing for the rest of the week, so that gives me a few days to work on the Cabin.   8)

Due to the roof line, etc. the mud room is 17" lower than the Cabin Addition floor, so I had to build a platform first and then build the return air plenum on top of that.  That 17" space will be used for boots, etc.

Now it was time to fabricate the two 8" outlets for the duct.

I thought my tinsmithing turned out OK.

The air handler has to go on top of the plenum, so I must do some figuring.  I can't pick it up.   :-\

I started stacking cribbing under the air handler and was getting nowhere fast.  Gotta be a better way.

Rope blocks to the rescue.   ;D

Yup, within 4" of getting there.  I am out of rope block height and I can not lift it any higher.  I need help.

That is my kind of help.  Fifteen seconds and it was sitting on top of the return air plenum.   :)

Geeeee....what does it weigh?
The older I get I wish my body could Re-Gen.

Magicman

Probably a bit less than 100 lbs, but there was nothing to hold on to.   Just too cumbersome to handle without help.

It is standing tall now.   ;D
