I've got an old Clark forklift IT60 with a 6 cylinder Continental engine, & the power steering pump is going out in it. Does any one know if there is a kit available to rebuild it? or where I might find a used pump for it?

thanks

Cedar, there are only a handfull of co.'s that manuf. power steering pumps.Usally they last the life of a vehicle, most folks don't rebuild they just replace with one from a junk yard.Pull it off clean it and visit a yard the owner should recognize it,if its belt driven almost any pump will work.Worst most expensive senario is you go to Clark. I have an IT 40, have you checked the fluid level? if that gets low it wont steer well

I checked the fluid & added some, but Ithink the pump is shot, its squealing & heats up real quick, almost to hot to touch. At first Ithought it was a loose belt, untill I touched it.
Its too cold outside to pull it off, so as soon as it warms up out, I'll get wrenching.
thanks for the reply's.....

My IT60 has a dual Vickers hydraulic vane pump that bolts up to the front cover of the engine (F245 Continental) and is driven by the timing gear. One side of the pump drives the main lift hydraulics while the other (smaller) handles the power steering. About 15 years ago I purchased aftermarket cartridge kits for it. It looks just like an older knuckle boom loader pump and I'm sure I used kits that were meant for a loader. It has worked great for years!!
I grew up around logging but chose to be a heavy equipment mechanic for several years. Later in life my interest changed so my cousin and myself went into logging on our own in 1988.
