640D deere

goin saterday to look at a 1988 640d john deere is there anything particular I should be looking at or for outher then the normal stuff like center pins and bushings thanks

Transmission. They are expensive to repair/replace. When they work they are great, when they don't I have heard horror stories.

ive been using one for a while now. no big issues other then typical jd stuff. pretty sound machines. power shifts either work or they don't. they are pretty expensive to replace. roughly 10k. a reman motor is also about 10k, just did one. not the machines fault though.

I bought a new 540D in 86, only issue I had in 7 years was a fitting in the winch,and  a busted headbolt which I was lucky enough to back out with a chain saw file 8).

My most expensive repair was caused by neat-o' porcupines! They got in it one night & chewed the fuel line under the tank. I jumped in that morning...she fired right up & away we went...got down in the woods..she ran out of fuel :'(

Another time, they chewed the steering wheel, arm rests on the seat,blade control knob, the suspension inside my hardhat...then Chit all over the hood!  So I invited them to an Prestone party...that worked!
