This is a video of the cab of my gmc 7000 6v53 truck showing me grinding gears with a twin stick. It is loud and shaky but it may bring back some memories of the "good old days  :D" for some of you guys.

Looks like a real workout, for the right arm anyway. :)

I tried driving a twin stick...once. Couldn't shift the main to save my life. Have since been shown how to do it without using both hands with the left arm hooked through the wheel like my buddy's dad used to.

That was fascinating. An education in itself. I never realized what a sheltered life I have led.  :D   Thanks for posting.
BTW, where in Brownington did we go. It was hard to tell from the scenery.

Does bring back memories, and especially earlier ones of the old '49 Fords and International's.
Double clutching to get from gear to gear and then all hands and feet going at once.
Thanks for the video.

I watched my dad plow snow with a 1962 international with a 5speed main and 4 speed aux, for years ! I rode in it from the time i could set in the seat till he sold it 20 years later! Came in handy when i was 22 i took a job driving a cement mixer, the first truck they put me in was a 64 international with the same trans set up! This was in the mid 80s! They said no one would drive it cause they couldn't shift it. Well all those years of watching dad payed off! I used the old arm through the steering wheel method! Owners of the company wouild hear me take off with the old 671 detroit and couldn't believe All the gears i could grab with it!

the first truck i hauled wood with lt9000 had a 671 5an a 4 double over. like woodhauler says left arm thru the wheel or up against it like i did. them you can split gears shift bolth at the same time. takes a while to get used to it but it works better. dont use the clutch on the rear trans only the main. i ran that truck for 5 yrs then put a 10 sp in it. then it was a 10 an a 4

Yeah dad's was beautiful.  Rootbeer brown metalic with gold pinstriping.  Sweet truck, but he sold it & got a later KW (like everyone else in the area) because it had bigger power.  Mack had a 280 Cunnins as I recall.  KW was a 335.  Kicked himself for ever for not just repowering the Mack.  Guy turned it into a water truck & got it clobbered by a train.  Sad end for a sweet truck!

Haha. I can't recall just how good they were, but back in the "old days" I loved my 5 & 4. We claimed the guy's driving a 10 or 13 speed were driving "training sticks".
