Improvment #15 to the LT10

Could imagine the thin starter cord breaking one day so decide to add a starter to the mill. It worked out very well so now I have the hand start as a spare. Used an old starter-generator which has lots or power for the job.

Very clever as usual, Jim.  But don't you think the cooks will hit the ceiling when they discover you have Hi Jacked the company Kitchen Aid mixer motor for the sake of that Lt10.  Better get that thing Patented before Wood Mizer trys to take credit for this add on. ;D.

Broke our pullcord and then broke the inner spring on our LT10 last weekend.  Had to rewind every time to start.

Ordered a new starter and later ordered the 10hp motor.

Have to admit having a starter is an intriguing idea -- and darn cool.

  With the starter I shut the mill down when ever I'm going to be a while, moving sawdust, slabs, lumber, cants, rolling another log up, filling the little water tank etc. I don't have the noise or burn fuel plus air cooled engines sometimes don't start as well warm as they do  cold. If the head is up high the rope is a real pain to reach to pull also. I have it on a trailer and when I have 20" log on that puts the head high. If Mizer copies they can send a box of blades to my house. Briggs and Stratton makes this model motor with and electric start but do not know if it would fit on a the mill.

The unit is a starter-generator, that's why the two terminals on the top. I'm not using the generating aspect but could be easily done by adding a regulator. It's easier and less bother to just charge the battery once a week as there is so little draw to start the engine.

Did you ever get a solution from WM regarding the hard lifting of the head?

Apart from your own fix?

How did you couple the starter/gen to the motor? Adapter belt ring on PTO side from the looks of it..........have another pictures of it?

  wm has never gotten back to me on the raising of the head. I expect I Will never hear from them.

I put a 7" pulley on the engine between the small mill drive pulley and the engine block driven with a fractional horse power belt from the starter -generator. That's a narrower belt than the A belt. Don't really have a better photo.

You either already did this one or maybe it doesn't rate being called improvement # 16 but how about a couple storage boxes aboard the lt10 on wheels.  They can both have 1/4" hardware cloth for a bottom so the sawdust goes right through but the log dogs and jacks stay put.

  Good idea with the boxes for tools. I have my mill on a trailer also but don't really plan on going out with it to saw. I placed a piece of plywood between the rails at the end and that's where pieces and parts are kept handy.
